Salary Range: $31.860-$39.929 Hourly

The Ministry of Social Services, Child and Family Services, requires an Assistant Supervisor specific to Child Protections. Under the Authority of The Child and Family Services Act and The Adoption Act, you will assist in supervising, managing, and implementing child protection programs designed to provide protective, preventative, and support services to children and their families using The Family Centered Case Management Model of practice.

Working as the assistant supervisor and as a senior practitioner, you will be responsible for casework and delivery of services related to a variety of programs for child protection. You will be part of a team providing assessments, developing treatment plans, and implementing intervention techniques to ensure that the physical, social, psychological, and educational needs of children in care are met.

In conjunction with or absence of the unit supervisor, your assistant supervisor responsibilities will include:

  • Supervision, training, support, coaching, and monitoring the quality of care and quality of practice provided by Child Protection workers;
  • Supervision and training specific to the use and application of the Structured Decision Making tools and related policies and procedures;
  • Participation as an active member of the supervisory team demonstrating a supervisory style exemplified through respect and empowerment to encourage employees to achieve success in their work;
  • Leadership on the implementation of child protection policies, procedures, services, and community resources;
  • Effectively and positively working with supervisors, colleagues, and the regional management team supporting regional directions that continuously improve or enhance service delivery to children and their families;
  • Approving expenditures (in the absence of the supervisor) and assisting the supervisor to effectively manage and monitor allocated work unit budgets;
  • Being a liaison and consultant, where required, with ICFS Agencies relating to child protection service delivery and decisions regarding children;
  • Representing the unit, region, and Ministry on various agency, community, or internal committees.

The incumbent will be required to work flexible hours and travel.

To qualify for this position, you will possess a Bachelor of Social Work, Bachelor of Indigenous Social Work, or an equivalent Social Work degree from an accredited university as approved by the CASW, CASWE, SASW and demonstrated knowledge specific to child protection policies and procedures which includes application of more general family-centered case management practices. Candidates will have extensive experience in Child Protective Services.

An eligibility list will be in effect for six months from the closing date for other opportunities as they arise.
