Position Description

The McGill University Department of Medicine, Division of Dermatology in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences invites applications for a full-time position as a member of the Contract Academic Staff as a Clinician-Teacher at the rank of Assistant Professor (Clinical) based at the Jewish General Hospital (JGH). This will be a Contract Academic Staff position and does not confer eligibility for tenure.

The JGH Division of Dermatology is highly committed to the pursuit of excellence in clinical care, research, quality improvement, and medical education. Its mission includes as a priority the strategic recruitment of outstanding sub-specialists committed to academic medicine and supporting the JGH’s mandate to provide high-quality patient-centered care with acute and chronic cutaneous inflammatory diseases and cutaneous malignancy including melanoma, lymphoma, and non-melanoma skin cancer.

Job Duties

As a Clinician-Teacher, the successful candidate’s major non-clinical focus will be on teaching the next generation of physicians, including both didactic and clinical teaching. Clinical responsibilities will include a commitment to medical inpatient and consultation services (in-patient and emergency departments), as well as to outpatient ambulatory dermatology.

The incumbent will also be expected to be actively involved in all aspects of McGill’s academic mission (i.e., research, teaching, supervision of students and residents and involvement in academic and administrative committees). All McGill faculty members are expected to contribute to service activities within their units, the University, and the wider scholarly community. A demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion is also expected.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

Candidates must:

  1. Hold an MD degree, and hold or be eligible for, licensure in the province of Quebec;
  2. Have completed subspecialty training in Dermatology;
  3. Be certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (or equivalent);
  4. Hold certification by the Collège des médecins du Québec;
  5. Have at least one additional year of clinical and/or research training in the area of Dermatology;
  6. Bilingual language skills (French and English) are preferred, or a commitment to acquire the necessary language skills to practice medicine in Quebec. Candidates should be able to interact in English and in French with patients, families and health care professionals.
