Position Description
The McGill University Department of Neurology and Neurosurgery invites applications for a full-time clinician-scientist position as a member of the Contract Academic Staff at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor (Clinical). The professorial rank will be determined according to the candidate’s qualifications and experience. This will be a three-year (renewable) appointment and does not confer eligibility for tenure.
The successful candidate will be appointed to clinical practice at the Montreal Neurological Hospital (the Neuro), within the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC). The MUHC is a major teaching hospital affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Canada’s internationally renowned McGill University, located in the vibrant and multicultural city of Montreal, in the province of Quebec.
The incumbent will join the Neuro’s Epilepsy Group—which brings together internationally renowned scientists, clinician-scientists, and clinicians with a long tradition of excellence in studying and treating causes and consequences of epilepsy. The unit is composed of a dynamic group of neurosurgeons, neurologists, neuro-radiologists, and interventional neuro-radiologists who provide tertiary in-patient and out-patient care, engage in a wide range of clinical and basic neuroscience research, and lead strong clinical neuroscience teaching programs in undergraduate and postgraduate medicine.
The successful candidate will be expected to have experience in the care of epileptic patients, particularly those with difficult to treat epilepsy, and in clinical neurophysiology. Out-patient and in-patient activities are based at the Montreal Neurological Hospital (the Neuro), which has a very active epilepsy clinical and surgical treatment center.
The successful candidate will have research interests in innovative epilepsy diagnosis and treatment approaches; they will play an active role in expanding the epilepsy clinical-research interface and will also play a role in linking the epilepsy program with other basic and clinical research activities in the department.
The successful candidate will be expected to be actively involved in all aspects of McGill’s academic mission (i.e., teaching, research, supervision of students and residents, and involvement in academic and administrative committees). They will provide excellent clinical teaching and supervision to diverse residents and medical students, and are expected to pursue scholarly activities in advancing clinical care in epilepsy.
Protected research time and laboratory resources within The Neuro will be available to candidates with exceptional research potential.
McGill faculty members are expected to contribute to service activities within their units, the University, and the wider scholarly community. A demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion is also expected.
