Position Summary
The Assistant Ground Operations Manager has the key role of guaranteeing that both the Thompson Ramp and Cargo staff comply with all procedures and duties assigned to their position, with a primary goal of maintaining safety, efficiency and On Time Performance.
The Assistant Ground Operations Manager will assist the Cargo and Ramp Operations Managers and Flight Operations, as well as other departmental supervision to ensure a safe, effective and efficient operation in order to achieve high levels of customer satisfaction and operational performance.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
- Provide coaching and mentoring to employees within the department, ensuring that services, sales standards and customer expectations are met.
- Ensure at all times that Cargo and Ramp staff comply with safety policies and regulations while properly utilizing equipment and materials.
- Demonstrate a cooperative attitude while working on all job tasks and provide assistance and support to others (e.g. loadmasters, Cargo Receivers, Ramp Agents) when needed and available.
- Maintain constant communication with Managers and coworkers, ensuring that teams are informed of updates, changes, procedures, etc.
- Demonstrate the ability to ensure that safety is maintained, and that efficiency and on-time performance are actively present and supported by all staff.
- Provide strong leadership of frontline employees on meeting operational and customer service performance objectives with a focus on maximizing cargo processing and minimizing Service Level Agreement delays.
- Ensure that all new and existing employees are trained and provided training both electronically and on-the-job.
- Ensure that payload capability is maximized, and aircraft are safely loaded within manufacturer limitations, while ensuring the proper handling, loading and documentation of baggage and cargo in order to reach the correct destination.
- Provide support and assistance and participate in projects for ongoing self-development.
- Provide assistance and support for any and all disciplinary issues that may arise within the department.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Managing Director of Ground Operations and/or the Cargo/Ramp Operations Managers.
Minimum Required Education and Experience
- Grade 12 diploma or equivalent
- Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and peripherals
- Knowledge of Amelia computer system is considered an asset
- Must possess a valid driver’s license
- Ability to obtain a RAP and AVOP
- Forklift license or completion of applicable training
- Previous supervisory experience considered an asset
- Cultural Diversity training considered an asset
- Dangerous Goods Acceptance Training
- Experience with Claims and APPR guidelines considered an asset
Working Conditions
- Work performed both indoors and outdoors; employee must be able to adapt to all weather conditions
- Consistent contact with staff and the public
- Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and peripherals
- In good general health and the ability to lift and bend, carrying loads of up to 75lbs
- Ability to carry and operate a radio
- Flexible with hours of work, i.e. weekdays, evenings, weekends
- Travel as required
- Work around and with machines and loud noises
- Wear safety equipment as required (e.g. hearing protection, safety vest, protective footwear, and ramp passes when on ramp)
