JOB TITLE:
Assistant Manager, Accounting
ABOUT US:
We are a climate-controlled Japanese Automotive Parts Manufacturer in the St. Thomas, ON region and are seeking a highly motivated, energetic, and qualified Assistant Manager, Accounting, to assist with fulfilling the roles and responsibilities pertaining to the management of all facets and functions of Accounting at our facility.
Reporting directly to the Accounting Manager, the successful incumbent will assist with managing, leading, and providing functional and specialized accounting support, overseeing the Company’s accounting systems, providing financial statements, reports, and summaries to the Senior Management Team, and providing departmental support through the execution of other related duties. The candidate will also aid in ensuring that all activities and operations within the accounting facets comply with all regulatory requirements and accounting principles and conform to the main targets of the Company.
We are looking for someone who is knowledgeable about all Accounting-related disciplines and who can work independently to build and maintain appropriate programs, policies, and provide specialized accounting support. The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of experience in an accounting-related role, demonstrated managerial ability, possess and/or be working towards a professional accounting designation (CGA or CMA), and have experience applying these skills within a manufacturing environment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Reports to the Manager, Accounting on a daily basis
- Works with Sr. MGT Team to set long-term goals and strategies
- Continually improves the systems and processes pertaining to the accounting function and performance to contribute to company success
- Encourages communication, consultation, and collaboration with employees, Customers, Suppliers, and public stakeholders
- Holds the Accounting Team accountable for following GAAP principles
- Oversees and manages the work of subordinates in accounting-related roles and disciplines
- Maintains/stays abreast of applicable legislation and guidelines
- Assists in the development and implementation of related policies and procedures
- Assists with the achievement of annual Accounting-related performance targets
- Assists with the completion of month-end reporting processes
- Performs Bank reconciliations
- Assists with overseeing the collection of all A/R
- Assists with overseeing timely payment of all A/P
- Assists with preparation of weekly cash flow information
- Assists with reconciliation of month-end and year-end inventory counts
- Assists with maintenance of fixed asset schedule/depreciation schedule
- Aids in initiatives pertaining to various special projects related to process improvements, cost reduction strategies, etc.
- Assists with the development of budgets
- Assists with performing reconciliation and running of Production Control reports at month-end
- Assists with preparing and facilitating year-end review with accounting firm
- Assists in the preparation of month-end financial reports for the Management Team
- Conducts GST reporting
- Assists in overseeing all Government-related reporting as required
- Assists with the management of foreign currency trade
- Tracks and reconciles monthly budgets
- Develops policy and procedures pertaining to the Accounting System
- Other related duties
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Professional Accounting Designation required (CGA or CMA) (or working towards completion)
- Minimum 5+ years’ experience working in an accounting-related role within a manufacturing environment, preferably automotive
- Demonstrated management and leadership skills are essential
- Understanding of all applicable legislation related to all facets of Accounting principles and guidelines
- Knowledge of Sage Intacct and ADP Workforce Now systems preferred
- Experience working with confidential and controlled documents
- Experience with Purchasing and understanding of related terminology and procedures is considered an asset
- Strong initiative skills with an ability to multi-task to handle multiple priorities
- Proven leadership skills with experience working in a team/self-starter with excellent language and communication skills, who pays attention to accuracy and detail
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills required with an ability to communicate to a group
- Must possess excellent time management and organizational skills to provide support in an effective and efficient manner
- Commitment, adaptability, and the ability to effectively manage multiple tasks
SCHEDULE:
- Full-Time, Monday – Friday, Day shift including occasional O/T requirements that may be required during the week and/or on weekends
LENGTH: Permanent
