The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) maintains the security, reputation, and integrity of Alberta Registries and the Registry Agent Network, conducting investigations in relation to suspected or actual violations of provincial statutes, the Criminal Code of Canada, Ministry policies and procedures, and provisions of Ministerial Agreements. Key stakeholders include law enforcement agencies (local and federal), Alberta Justice and Alberta Public Safety & Emergency Services, Motor Vehicle Administration, Alberta Transportation and Alberta Registry Agents.

The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) Assistant Investigator is an entry-level investigator position. Investigations assigned directly to you will generally be a lower level of complexity. You may also work in a team led by more senior investigators who are conducting complex investigations completing assigned investigative tasks.
This position deals directly with clients and stakeholders and actively works as an Alberta Peace Officer to investigate files, interview witnesses and suspects and, when applicable, lay charges under provincial statutes or the Criminal Code of Canada. This position supports Assistant and Senior Investigators and SIU management.

This position is required to act as a resource and provide training assistance to SIU personnel and will act as a resource for investigators, both within SIU and within other GoA investigative units. This investigator position contributes to the unit's mandate of ensuring that the registry agent network maintains the security of all personal information contained in registries databases.
