Title: Assistant, Food Services & Sustainability

Reports To: Manager, Athlete Services

Anticipated Start Date: April 21, 2025

Contract End Date: August 29, 2025

Overview of the Position

The Assistant, Food Services & Sustainability will support all food and beverage requirements for the 2025 Canada Games, sustainability initiatives, and the Manager, Athlete Services as required. The Assistant will also work closely with the associated Volunteer Leads and Games-time volunteers.

Key Responsibilities

This role will be responsible for, but not limited to:

  • Assisting in identifying requirements necessary to execute a Food & Beverage Plan for various groups
  • Supporting the development of Games-time policies and procedures to guide the delivery of services during Games-time, including but not limited to venue feeding, food delivery procedures, lounge grazing procedures, late feeding policies, allergy/dietary restriction policies, etc.;
  • Assisting with the training, orienting, and guiding volunteers for their relevant Venues;
  • Participating in Venue Team Meetings, as needed, and providing relevant program information and updates;
  • Ensuring cleaning protocols are addressed at all venues, including hand washing and sanitation stations;
  • Managing on-venue activities during Games-time, such as:

Supply orders

Deliveries

Distribution

Refilling water and Gatorade

Supplier contracts

  • Complying with Public Health Food Safety regulations and Waste Management principles;
  • Being a fully engaged team member with a goal of positive and healthy relationships in the workplace;
  • Executing all responsibilities in a manner which is consistent with the Mission, Vision, and Values of the St. John’s 2025 Canada Games, and;
  • Fulfilling all other duties as reasonably required.

Education/Experience

  • Diploma or undergraduate degree in Food and Beverage, Tourism, Hospitality, Business Administration, Event or Sport Management, or other related field;
  • Minimum three (3) years of related work experience or a combined equivalent of education and work experience.

Qualifications

  • Keen attention to detail;
  • Ability to accurately create and manage data in a spreadsheet;
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written;
  • Demonstrated ability to set priorities and manage multiple projects, working with minimal supervision;
  • Flexible and adaptable to changing and conflicting priorities;
  • Ability to work collaboratively with both staff and volunteers;
  • Creative, results-oriented, able to deliver on deadlines and deliverables
  • Experience with Google’s G Suite programs (e.g. Gmail, Docs, Slides, Forms, Calendar, etc.);
  • Knowledge and experience working in a not-for-profit, events, or multi-sport Games environment;
  • Ability to liaise and interact with multiple partners on a local, provincial, and national level.

Other

  • Bilingualism (English and French) is an asset;
  • Based on position requirements, flexibility to work evenings, weekends and holidays.

Conditions of Employment

  • Office hours are 40 hours per week;

  • Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) Certificate of Conduct and Vulnerable Sector Check are required for all positions;
