We are currently recruiting an Assistant Educator to join our Team in Keswick at the following location: Prince of Peace CES.

Position Type & Required Availability:

  • Full-Time Full Day Position (40 hours/week): Candidates must be available to work an 8-hour shift Monday-Friday to be considered.

Position Summary:

To ensure operational and curriculum requirements are met in compliance with all Ministry and organizational guidelines. To ensure the delivery of a developmentally appropriate, play-based program by applying specialized skills and knowledge related to early childhood education. Supports the organization’s vision, mission, and guiding values. This is a fully in-centre position.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Applies current legislative expectations to support a program that is consistent with Ministry of Education requirements and in accordance with Upper Canada Child Care’s program statement.
  • Participates in professional development opportunities, staff meetings, and training sessions as required.
  • Engages with the children and provides a positive learning experience, including assistance with meals/snacks, toileting, diapering, dressing, etc.
  • Fosters ongoing communication with parents about the program and their children.
  • Completes program charts, daily logs, reports, and other administrative tasks as required.
  • Uses Storypark for pedagogical documentation as a guide for program development.
  • Effectively collaborates and communicates with other team members, school personnel, and outside agencies to help support the needs of all children.
  • Provides guidance to students and volunteers as needed.
  • Identifies children in need of additional support, guides parents through the process of accessing resources, and helps design and implement individual support plans as required.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Health assessment and record of immunization, as outlined by legislation.
  • Up-to-date certification in CPR-C and Standard First Aid.
  • Basic knowledge of the developmental needs of children and demonstrated ability to apply this knowledge.
  • Experience with inquiry/play-based program design and implementation, and with the use of pedagogical documentation is an asset.
  • Uses initiative; applies sound reasoning in solving problems and resolves conflict in a calm, professional manner.
  • Proven ability to communicate (written and verbal) effectively and establish appropriate relationships with families, coworkers, and other professionals.
  • Physical and emotional stamina to effectively supervise children in a variety of settings including outdoor public spaces.
  • Ability to use computer systems and programs, including Dayforce and Storypark.
  • Moderate level of physical effort is regularly required, including but not limited to kneeling, pushing, pulling, bending, and carrying.
