Job description

Orla Mining is striving to be the emerging gold producer of choice with a geographically diversified asset base, a prospective development and exploration portfolio, an experienced management team with a successful track record, and a high-quality board and shareholder base. We are committed to creating and maintaining a culture of workplace diversity and recognize the benefits arising from employee diversity, respecting and valuing the perspectives, experiences, cultures, and essential differences that everyone possesses.

Orla operates the Camino Rojo Oxide Gold Mine, a gold and silver open-pit heap leach mine, located in Zacatecas State, Central Mexico. This low-cost operation is 100% owned by Orla, covers over 139,000 hectares, and includes a large sulphide mineral endowment located beneath the oxide resources. We are also advancing permitting on our South Railroad Project, a feasibility-stage, open-pit heap leach project located on the prolific Carlin trend in Nevada.

More recently, we’ve entered into an agreement with Newmont Corporation to acquire the Musselwhite Mine, located in Northern Ontario on Lake Opapimiskan. This project has great potential in a tier-one mining jurisdiction, and with more than 25 years of proven track record. This fly-in, fly-out operation will position Orla to double its annual gold production and provide us with excellent future opportunities. We expect this transaction to close in Q1 2025.

As part of our acquisition of the Musselwhite Mine, we are recruiting for the Asset Planner role. This role will be based on-site and will develop and implement all plans when conducting electrical preventative maintenance and construction work. This position is also responsible for planning for sprinkler technicians, gas fitters, instrumentation technicians, providing support to special projects, and direction to contractors within the department. This role will report to the Planning & Reliability Superintendent and will be key to the success of the Maintenance department.

Responsibilities include:

  • Development and implementation of plan and schedule for preventative maintenance requirements for E&I, fire protection, and propane-related assets.
  • Site champion for Electrical Department preventative maintenance initiatives.
  • Fire protection & propane system compliance planning.
  • Provide support to special projects during the design, construction, and commissioning stages to promote equipment and process standardization for final handover.
  • Provide direction, support, and adequate scoping to contracted service providers.
  • Work closely with execution leadership and site planners for overall alignment of tasks.
Skills and Experience:
  • Post-Secondary Electrical Diploma and 309A Red Seal.
  • Certified Fire Alarm Systems Technician (CFAA) (asset, but not required).
  • 3-5 years of electrical maintenance experience in an industrial environment, with a preference to mining.
  • 3-5 years of planning experience and implementing projects with a focus on electrical efficiencies.
  • Working knowledge of electrical transmission and distribution systems up to 115V.
  • Working knowledge of electrical process and control systems.
  • Practical knowledge of the application of the OESC, CSA, M-421, IEEE, OH&S OBC, OFC, NFPA 70E & 70B, CSA Z462 & Z463 and all other applicable codes and standards applicable to electrical installations, safety and maintenance.
  • Willingness and ability to attend and achieve the specialized training deemed necessary to support the position requirement.
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong commitment to working in a safe, socially responsible manner.
  • Self-directed team player with the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experienced skillset within all Office 365 applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, etc.).
Working Conditions:
  • The schedule is 7x7 or 14x14, working 12-hour days.
