The Opportunity
Custom Leather Canada Limited is currently seeking an Area Leader to support all procedures related to shipping, packing and logistics. This position is responsible for supervising and ensuring that the company’s shipping, packing and logistics work as a team to operate efficiently and effectively, achieving maximum production flow, and meeting our customers’ delivery requirements. They are responsible for monitoring all of the outgoing products at our facility and overseeing belt production-finishing side.
Job Duties
- Participate in the hiring, orientation, training and performance management of employees within your teams.
- Design and manage workflow including setting targets, priorities and proactively identifying potential areas of concern and devising working solutions.
- Ensure that staff are properly trained to perform their duties and perform regular process checks.
- Provide regular feedback and coaching with team, including performance management.
- Manage the team’s attendance and time-off requests to ensure adequate coverage for the different teams.
- Lead regular team meetings to address any issues, provide updates and have regular touch-points with the teams.
- Monitor outgoing products at the facility to ensure that all shipments are being processed in accordance with Company policies and procedures.
- Negotiate and recommend vendors for all modes of transportation and customs clearances in North America (rail, ocean and ground transport) through an annual RFP process.
- Act as an escalation point and problem solver for transportation, logistics and customs service issues.
- Communicate and investigate any shipping and packing concerns with Customer Service and/or Sales.
- Monitor packing performance.
- Act as a liaison between the Sales and Operations teams to provide pricing for transportation services in North America.
- Update and maintain a transportation routing guide for all modes of transportation.
- Investigate causes of lost or damaged shipments and support the claims process with our vendors.
- Responsible for the accuracy of freight invoice auditing and payment approval process.
- Review quality reports daily and report findings with comments to the Senior Vice President of Operations.
- Monitor shortages, bundle tickets, cancellation dates on work orders and production reports including prioritizing and expediting as necessary with appropriate communication and documentation of explanations as required.
- Investigating and identifying the root cause of inventory variances.
- Oversee the performance of physical inventory procedures.
- Administer the Cross Training Program, including monitoring employee progress and initiating qualifications.
- Promote Health and Safety and ensure that all employees are working in compliance with all policies and legislation at all times.
- Providing coverage for other Area Leaders during absences.
This position cooperates closely with all the internal departments of the company.
Qualifications:
- Post-secondary education in Supply Chain or relevant field would be an asset.
- 2-3 years of experience in Shipping, Receiving, Logistics and Inventory Control.
- Previous supervisory experience an asset.
- Intermediate Microsoft Office skills in Outlook and Excel.
- Excellent time management skills with the ability to prioritize and handle competing priorities, ensuring a service-oriented disposition.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Able to collaborate with a variety of stakeholders and work effectively with multiple departments.
- Self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision or direction.
- Positive attitude and service-oriented disposition, handles pressure well.
- A continuous improvement focus on work.
