Overview

In this position, you will apply your technical knowledge to evaluate existing buildings and assist with design solutions for the complex and unique problems of our clients. Projects will include a mix of residential, multi-family, and commercial projects, with an emphasis on rehabilitation or repair of damage from fire, wind, flood, and impacts, as well as adaptive reuse of older buildings, and enhancements to existing facilities to accommodate changes in use and implementation of equipment and machinery. You must be able to manage several projects simultaneously and be detail-oriented. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential.

Essential Job Functions

  • Preparation of CAD drawings.
  • Collect field data required for the preparation of repair specifications, drawings, and tendering.
  • Assist in the preparation of technical specifications for exterior envelope remediation projects.
  • Review shop drawings.
  • Coordinate with engineers and/or architects for peer reviews and design guidance.
  • Support the team with project management duties and project administration tasks.
  • Other assigned duties and tasks, as required.

Required Experience, Education and Certifications

  • Post-secondary diploma from an Architectural Technology (or related) program.
  • Minimum of 2-4 years of working experience with writing specifications and drafting.
  • Knowledge and understanding of building envelope and structural systems is preferred.
  • Basic understanding of building construction including methods, materials, and systems.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation are required.

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Must possess the ability to read Architectural plans.
  • Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD and strong Architectural drafting skills.
  • General construction knowledge (i.e. how buildings go together).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, specifically in accuracy of calculations and completeness of data collection and notation.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated willingness to be flexible and adaptable to changing priorities.
  • Self-motivating and able to multi-task.
  • Ability to act with business integrity and professionalism.

This is an on-site position. The selected candidate will be required to work from the office during all business days.

Physical Demands, Overtime, and Travel Requirements

Physical Demands – Work is performed both in an office setting and at outside locations (i.e. industrial, construction and/or residential sites). The employee is frequently required to stand, walk on sloped and flat roofs, sit, climb ladders, bend, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk, hear, and drive a motor vehicle to client sites or job sites. Working at heights, including accessing buildings by ladders, swing stages, and mechanical lifts will be necessary. The employee may lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Clear vision and depth perception are also necessary. The employee must be sharp, focused, and alert when conducting inspections, speaking, and interacting with clients, preparing drawings and written reports.

Overtime – There will be some occasions where overtime (or working after normal business hours) will be required to meet the demands of the position.

Travel – This position requires up to 60% local area travel. Some out-of-area and overnight travel may be required.
