We are GROWING our Corporate team! Bradford Greenhouses is looking for an Architectural Technologist to work alongside our Facilities and Construction Manager in our Barrie office. This is a wonderful opportunity for someone who is detail-oriented, a great communicator, knowledgeable in construction and building projects, and looking to learn some new skills in an ever-evolving industry.

Summary:

The Architectural Technologist works independently while providing technical assistance to the Construction and Facilities Manager in conducting research, preparing drawings, architectural models, specifications, and contracts and in supervising construction projects. This individual provides design services and solutions that are specialized in the science of architecture, building design and construction. They form the link between the architect's concept and the completed construction, bridging the gap between the idea of an attractive functional building and the reality of that building performing successfully. The Architectural Designer ensures that the right materials are used and that the building meets building regulations and other legal requirements. They also monitor quality assurance, costs, and deadlines throughout the construction project.

Job Duties:

  • Communicate with internal clients, contractors, other building professionals, and approval authorities.
  • Preparation of concept drawings (and Revit) for internal approval prior to sending them to consultants for the preparation of Permit drawings.
  • Prepare, read, interpret, and revise drawings and other graphical representations used in building projects.
  • Obtain, analyze, prepare, and revise specifications and other project documents used in design and construction.
  • Prepare estimates of time, costs, and quantity, and participate in the tendering process.
  • Solve technical problems related to building projects through the application of principles of building science and mathematics.
  • Collaborate with and coordinate information from structural, mechanical, and electrical building system professionals.
  • Contribute to the design of architectural projects.
  • Contribute to the analysis, planning, and preparation of site planning documents.
  • Comply with the legal and ethical requirements of an architectural technologist in the practice of building design and construction.
  • Assess buildings and their interiors and make recommendations for their repurposing and renovation.
  • Ensure personal safety and contribute to the safety of others in the workplace.
  • Participate in sustainable design and building practices.
  • Use and evaluate current and emerging technology to support building projects.
  • Assist in the planning, scheduling, and monitoring of building projects.
  • Apply business principles to design and building practices.

Requirements:

  • Completion of a two or three-year college program in architectural technology or a related subject.
  • 2-5 years related architectural experience required.
  • Certification in architectural technology or in a related field through provincial associations of architectural or engineering/applied science technologists and technicians an asset.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit a must.
  • Knowledgeable in O.B.C (Ontario Building Code).
  • Familiarity with all other codes (i.e., Fire, Farm, etc.).
  • Understanding of municipal zoning requirements.
  • Experience in the Greenhouse Industry an asset.
  • Experience with Microsoft Project/Project Management software an asset.
  • Work effectively as an individual and team member demonstrating an awareness of ethical work practices.
  • Demonstrate critical thinking and innovative problem-solving ability.
  • Apply health and safety standards and best practices to the workplace.
  • Ability to work full-time, on-site, with travel between facilities in the York and South Simcoe Regions when required.
