Rate of Pay: $27.15 per hour plus a shift premium as applicable.
PURPOSE AND SCOPE:
The position is responsible for Lifeguarding, Instructing, organizing, and implementing all aquatic programs, including supervision and evaluation of all aquatic programs and staff with the City of Belleville.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Be responsible for the safety and supervision of the participants and staff to ensure that policies, rules, and regulations set out by the Department and/or outside organizations are followed.
- Coordinate lifeguard and instructor rotations, breaks, delegation of tasks, lesson assignments, and to monitor instructors' lesson plans, worksheets, and report cards to ensure they are completed properly and to update required forms as needed.
- Complete administrative tasks as required by the Aquatics Coordinator such as maintaining statistics, completing reports, updating paperwork, updating swim test records, etc.
- Ensure that all forms, documents, records, and all necessary paperwork are filled out for each shift correctly. Update paperwork and recommend necessary changes to documents/paperwork as required.
- Be responsible for safety, security and cleanliness around the pool deck, lifeguard office and change room areas.
- Assist with shift changes and coverage (including teaching, guarding or any other duties involved in covering another staff, as needed).
- Act as a positive role model, work as a team to coordinate lifeguards and ensure staff are following proper protocols, give guidance to other staff members, observe, evaluate, and give feedback to aquatics staff, and assist the Aquatics Coordinator with the performance appraisals of the part-time Aquatics staff.
- Propose, implement, and supervise any special events and rental groups including but not limited to swim meets, camp swims, Board of Education programs, in coordination with the Aquatics Coordinator.
- Resolve problems and/or conflicts with patrons and/or staff.
- Be knowledgeable of City programs and have strong public relation skills.
- Assume the responsibility for assessing, responding, providing first aid, and providing support to other staff, and as needed in an emergency, completing the necessary reports and conduct staff debriefs.
- Be responsible for maintaining personal fitness levels to be able to lifeguard, monitor, lead, and instruct in designated programs.
- Attend and assist with the organization and running of all Aquatics staff training and meetings as scheduled.

EDUCATION/SPECIALIZED TRAINING:
Minimum Required Qualifications:
- High School Diploma
- Swim Instructor- Lifesaving Society
- National Lifeguard Certification
- Standard First Aid and C.P.R. 'C' Certification
- Lifesaving Instructor- Lifesaving Society
- Examiner- up to Bronze Cross
- Aquatic Supervisor Certification
Asset Qualifications:
- Standard First Aid Instructor/ Examiner
- National Lifeguard Instructor/ Examiner
- Instructor Trainer- Lifesaving Society
- Certified Pool Operator
- Certified Aquafitness Instructor (AQX, CALA, WaterArt, YMCA)
WORK EXPERIENCE:
Minimum Required Experience:
- Two (2) years' experience instructing and lifeguarding.
- One (1) year Head Instructor/Guard experience.
- Skill and efficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Suite.
Asset (preferred) Experience:
- Experience with related recreation software (Xplor Recreation)
- Municipal recreation experience
