Course Description: This course aims to introduce students to the fundamentals of the teaching profession. It will help students better understand the close relationship between the learner, knowledge, and the teacher: the pedagogical relationship. More specifically, through this course, students will learn about the Franco-Ontarian school system, the organization and structure of various school boards, education in the French language in a minority context, and the art and science of teaching. This entirely online course is structured to place each student at the center of their learning. It is designed to facilitate knowledge construction and deepen fundamental concepts in education through group discussions, readings, collaborative workshops, and practical assignments proposed in class.

An education/experience level deemed equivalent may supplement the required education and/or experience. A PhD is preferred, along with teaching experience at the intermediate/senior level. Candidates should have at least one of the following:

  • Recent full-time teaching experience in a school or administration within a school board, including two years of implementing the Ontario Curriculum with a specialist qualification, or
  • A current, peer-reviewed research record, or
  • A recent comprehensive exam (Ph.D.);
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the current Ontario Curriculum and Ministry of Education documents;
  • Proven ability to apply the Standards of Practice and the Code of Ethics of the Ontario College of Teachers.
  • The University may consider experience or qualifications equivalent to those mentioned above.

Please note that the course is offered in-person.
