Position Title: AP Microeconomics and AP Macroeconomics Teacher
Location: MERIT COLLEGE

Position Type: Part-time

Position Overview:

We are seeking a passionate and knowledgeable AP Microeconomics and AP Macroeconomics teacher to join our school community. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of both microeconomic and macroeconomic principles, as well as experience preparing students for Advanced Placement (AP) exams. The teacher will be responsible for delivering high-quality instruction in AP Microeconomics and AP Macroeconomics, fostering student engagement, and supporting students in their academic growth.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Instruction & Curriculum Delivery: Develop and implement engaging lesson plans for both AP Microeconomics and AP Macroeconomics courses that align with College Board guidelines and state standards.
  • Teach core economic concepts including supply and demand, market structures, elasticity, national income, monetary and fiscal policy, and international trade.
  • Incorporate a variety of teaching methods (lectures, discussions, case studies, multimedia, simulations, etc.) to meet the diverse learning needs of students.
  • Maintain an organized classroom environment conducive to learning and student participation.
  • Assessment & Feedback: Design and administer assessments (tests, quizzes, essays, projects) to monitor student progress and understanding of course material.
  • Provide timely and constructive feedback on student work, addressing areas for improvement and encouraging academic growth.
  • Prepare students for the AP Microeconomics and AP Macroeconomics exams through practice tests, review sessions, and other preparatory activities.
  • Student Support & Differentiation: Identify and support students who need additional assistance, including tutoring, office hours, or individualized support.
  • Encourage student engagement and participation, fostering a growth mindset and critical thinking skills.
  • Develop differentiated instructional strategies to meet the needs of all learners.
  • Collaboration & Professional Development: Collaborate with colleagues to ensure a cohesive learning experience and share best practices.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current on economic theory, teaching strategies, and AP exam changes.
  • Engage in school-wide activities, including meetings, conferences, and events, as required.
  • Communication & Administration: Maintain accurate and up-to-date student records, including grades, attendance, and progress reports.
  • Communicate regularly with parents or guardians regarding student performance and behavior.
  • Stay current with changes to the AP curriculum, exam formats, and educational technology.
  • Classroom Management: Establish and maintain a positive classroom culture based on respect, responsibility, and accountability.
  • Manage classroom behavior effectively, ensuring a productive and respectful learning environment.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Economics, Education, or related field. A Master’s degree in Economics or Education is preferred.
  • Experience: Experience teaching high school economics, preferably in AP Microeconomics and AP Macroeconomics. Familiarity with the College Board's AP curriculum and exam structure.
  • Skills & Abilities: Strong knowledge of microeconomic and macroeconomic theory and real-world applications. Ability to explain complex economic concepts in a clear and engaging manner. Proficiency in using educational technology (e.g., Google Classroom, online quizzes, multimedia tools). Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $35.00-$55.00 per hour

Expected hours: 5 – 10 per week

Flexible language requirement: French not required
