Job description

Wikwemikong Tourism is seeking highly motivated individuals that are interested in learning and sharing the Anishnaabe Culture through our Authentic Anishinaabe Cultural Experiences. The successful candidates will train and work under the guidance of Enaadmaagehijik’s Tourism Team.

DUTIES:

  1. To learn, share and engage with visitors about the Anishinaabe Culture, language and history on Manitoulin Island and Killarney.
  2. To deliver all tours including individual, group, motor coach and Familiarization tours in a safe, respectful and authentic manner that is aligned with Anishinaabe Bimaadzwin.
  3. Participate in Cultural Guide Training inclusive of Traditional Anishnaabe Knowledge and industry-related training.
  4. Assist with maintaining tourism assets, spaces, supplies, and equipment including canoes, hiking trails, and historic sites.
  5. Forage for natural ingredients and other materials for Cultural experiences.
  6. Ensure that all necessary and relevant documentation is completed by guests and maintain customer evaluations for reporting purposes.
  7. Assist with developing new Tourism products and/or enhancing existing products.
  8. Assist with tourism-related events.
  9. Deliver superior customer service and model service excellence delivery with Tourism Ambassadors and guests.
  10. Work in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its Regulations and any workplace practices as directed by the employer.
  11. Perform other assigned duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Must be registered with an Anishinaabe community.
  2. Knowledge of and/or willingness to learn about Anishinabek history, language and cultural practices.
  3. Experience in delivering cultural tours, workshops and/or land-based programming is considered an asset.
  4. Must be comfortable speaking with the general public in small and large group settings.
  5. Ability to organize and set priorities, work independently and contribute to team dynamics.
  6. Must provide a Criminal Reference Check and will be subject to the responsibilities of the position.
  7. Class G license is an asset.
  8. Full-time and part-time employment positions available.
