WHO YOU WILL WORK WITH

The Public Markets group manages a portfolio of fixed income, equity and absolute return investments representing approximately $147 billion utilizing both index and active management strategies. The group invests in Canada, the U.S. and internationally in both the developed and emerging markets. Assets are managed using both internal management and external managers. The group uses a diverse mix of financial instruments including bonds, equities, and derivatives. In addition, the group is a leader in responsible investing, actively integrating environmental, social, and governance factors into our investment analysis and decision-making.

THE OPPORTUNITY

The Analyst, Partnership Portfolio, based in our Victoria, British Columbia office, plays a crucial role in supporting the management of BCI’s absolute return mandates, co-investments, and direct deals. Reporting to the Managing Director, Partnership Portfolio, the Analyst will be responsible for conducting in-depth quantitative and qualitative analysis, preparing detailed reports, and collaborating with various internal teams to ensure the successful execution of investment strategies. This role requires a strong analytical mindset, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

WHAT YOU BRING

Must have:

  1. A relevant university degree (e.g., Finance, Math, Statistics, Economics, Engineering) or equivalent work experience, ideally supplemented by enrolment in the CFA program
  2. One to three years of experience in a financial organization, preferably at an institutional asset manager, with a proven track record of success
  3. Strong quantitative and statistical analytical skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and provide actionable insights
  4. Advanced expertise in Excel, including financial modeling, task automation, and programming
  5. Exceptional writing and editing skills, with meticulous attention to detail and the ability to produce high-quality reports and presentations
  6. Strong intellectual curiosity and a passion for working across a breadth of asset types
  7. A proactive, can-do attitude, with the ability to support various operational, monitoring, reporting, and investment-related tasks
  8. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with senior investment professionals in a dynamic, performance-driven environment

WHAT YOU GET TO DO

  • Develops and maintains advanced Excel workbooks to streamline and automate complex workflows, ensuring data accuracy and efficiency
  • Conducts comprehensive quantitative and statistical analysis of individual external managers and overall investment pools, identifying trends and providing actionable insights
  • Prepares detailed written reports and presentations for senior managers and clients, highlighting portfolio performance, investment strategies, and market conditions for equity portfolio mandates and absolute return investments
  • Actively monitors current investments by participating in meetings, taking detailed notes, and producing thorough reports to inform decision-making processes
  • Creates sophisticated financial models to evaluate investment recommendations, assess risk, and support strategic planning
  • Collaborates closely with cross-functional teams, including legal, risk, performance, investment operations, and client relations, to ensure alignment and achieve the Partnership Portfolio team's objectives
  • Supports various portfolio/team initiatives and projects, contributing to the continuous improvement of processes and outcomes
  • Responds promptly to requests from direct supervisors and other department members, providing research and assistance as needed to support the team's goals

Work from our downtown Victoria office.

SALARY RANGE

BCI offers a competitive total rewards package which includes a performance-based incentive plan, comprehensive health & dental benefits, a defined benefit pension plan and paid time off.

The annualized base salary range for this Victoria-based role is CAD $77,000 - $93,000.

The base salary offered to the successful candidate will consider a wide array of factors including but not limited to the individual’s skill set, level of experience applicable to the role they are being offered and consideration to internal equity.

We pay our people competitively in the markets in which we compete for talent and with consideration to internal equity and job structure. We aim for actual pay to be around the median of the market for target or expected levels of performance, and around the upper quartile of the market for excellent performance.

Actual salaries may vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors, including, but not limited to, experience and expertise.
