What You'll Be Doing
The Global Diversified Industries team provides investment banking services to existing and prospective clients in the Consumer, Industrials and Telecom sectors. Our client-centric approach incorporates M&A and other financial advisory services with full access to the debt, equity and loan capital markets. The team also delivers complex risk and hedging solutions to clients.
The GDI team supports our clients through a variety of transactions including M&A, capital structure and strategic advisory, equity and debt capital financings, and tax equity transactions. Through such transactions, our specialized global platform and subject matter expertise enables us to help our clients meet their goals. With guidance from the team, you will complete assignments that impact the firm's bottom line through transaction and financing execution, client relationship support, industry and company research, and contributing to the overall communication flow across our global offices. The role provides you with steep learning and an ability to observe and influence the strategic direction of our clients’ businesses with exposure to company executives and board of directors.
Analysts on the GDI team will be expected to provide a broad range of analytical, research and presentation preparation support to all the professionals within their group. Typically, Analysts are assigned to a variety of transactions and advisory projects, such as mergers & acquisitions, divestitures, equity and debt financings and capital structure and strategic advisory projects, and must have strong prioritization and multi-tasking capabilities. You will also be expected to maintain an awareness of our clients, industry, regulatory issues and relevant economic/political trends.

How You'll Succeed
Research - Conduct industry research and analysis to assist in the identification and/or analysis of investment banking business opportunities
Client Proposal - Play a key role in the preparation of client proposals, “pitchbooks” and the execution of new and existing client mandates. Prepare industry and financial analysis to assist with the development of client recommendations
Financial Modeling - Develop and audit sophisticated financial models
Analysis - Lead industry comparable value and transaction precedent analyses
Due Diligence - Assist in company due diligence investigations
Support - Support senior investment banking colleagues and maintain the group’s databases on a current basis
Relationship Building – Grow your internal and external networks by coordinating client-focused and/or deal-focused “brainstorming” sessions with relevant team members and product specialists. Developing relationships and actively communicating with various appropriate contacts at our clients. Developing and maintaining an internal network with product groups and other business groups. Developing and maintaining an external network with the market (i.e. key stakeholders, clients, prospects, etc.) Liaising with other units of CIBC Capital Markets in preparing proposals for clients. Who You Are

You have a degree in Finance, accounting, mathematics, engineering or economics undergraduate degree. Completion of and/or intention to complete a CA, CPA or CFA, is preferred
You can demonstrate relevant industry experience. A minimum of 1-year of experience in one or more of investment banking, corporate finance, and/or private equity is required. Experience with meaningful financial modeling and analysis is a plus.
You have relevant financial skills. Excellent analytical ability including demonstrated knowledge of valuation techniques and practices, including cash flow and returns analyses. Knowledge of accounting principles relating to financial statement preparation and business combinations.
You're technically savvy. Strong quantitative technical skills as it relates to basic computer applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), industry technology (FactSet and Bloomberg) and other applicable software.
You’re motivated by collective success. Well-developed interpersonal and relationship building skills in order to develop, manage and leverage relationships with clients, and internal and/or external business partners. Well-developed written and verbal communication skills sufficient to provide detailed explanation and interpretation of factual and conceptual information and ideas related to complex technical and conceptual issues. Unquestioned professionalism, ethics and reputation and proven ability to exercise strong independent judgment when making business decisions and/or representing CIBC Capital Markets.
