THE OPPORTUNITY

Based in our offices in Victoria, British Columbia, and reporting to the Director, Analytics & Reporting, the Analyst will be part of a team responsible for the monitoring and reporting for the Public Markets department. The Analyst will primarily assist in providing strategic insights by developing and implementing interactive, on-demand analytical tools and solutions for a variety of stakeholders within Public Markets. This position offers the candidate an excellent opportunity to combine their business knowledge with technological acumen to enable strategic decisions within Public Markets. The successful candidate will use the existing Analytics & Reporting Infrastructure to deploy new analytical models.

WHO YOU WILL WORK WITH

The Public Markets Group manages a portfolio of fixed income, equity, private debt and absolute return investments representing approximately $130 billion utilizing both index and active management strategies. The Group invests in Canada, the U.S. and internationally, in both the developed and emerging markets. Assets are managed using both internal management and external managers. The Group uses a diverse mix of financial instruments including bonds, equities, and derivatives. In addition, the Group is a leader in Responsible Investing actively integrating environmental, social and governance factors into our investment analysis and decision-making.

Public Markets Operations, a team within Public Markets, provides operational foundation for departments’ existing strategies while being a strategic partner to the various investment teams in the exploration of new value-add strategies for our clients. The team is the key interface with internal and external business partners and stakeholders in execution of Public Markets’ business.

WHAT YOU BRING

  1. Undergraduate degree in business, statistical, mathematical or other related discipline.

  2. 1-2 years of experience in Capital Markets.

  3. Professional designation such as CFA/CAIA in progress/completed, is an asset.

  4. Comfortable in writing SQL code.

  5. Programming skills in Python, is an asset.

  6. Demonstrated ability with data visualization creation tool such as Tableau, is an asset.

  7. Experience in data transformation and data manipulation.

  8. Strong communication skills and the ability to adapt messaging according to the audience.

  9. Proactive attitude, interest in investment management, dedication to hard work, commitment to the highest ethical standards, and an eagerness to learn and progress.

WHAT YOU WILL GET TO DO

  1. Assist in developing and enhancing analytics using Python and SQL for various investment strategies within Public Markets.

  2. Develop and maintain efficient and accurate dashboard reporting of Public Markets investments using data visualization tools like Tableau.

  3. Evaluate the quality and accuracy of data received within the context of investment strategies.

  4. Support analytical infrastructure using internal monitoring tools and troubleshoot issues related to data processes.

  5. Respond to ad hoc requests from Public Markets as well as other teams within BCI.

  6. Carry out other responsibilities as delegated by the Director, Analytics & Reporting.

WHERE YOU WILL WORK

Work from our downtown Victoria office. We are an in-person collaborative organization with the flexibility to work remotely 1-day a week.

SALARY RANGE

BCI offers a competitive total rewards package which includes a performance-based incentive plan, comprehensive health & dental benefits, a defined benefit pension plan and paid time off.

The annualized base salary range for this Victoria-based role is CAD $77,000 - $90,000. The base salary offered to the successful candidate will consider a wide array of factors including but not limited to the individual’s skill set, level of experience applicable to the role they are being offered and consideration to internal equity.

We aim for actual pay to be around the median of the market for target or expected levels of performance, and around the upper quartile of the market for excellent performance.
