Senior Project Manager – Data Center of Excellence

Project Overview: Reporting to the Manager of Data Product Delivery, the Senior Project Manager is responsible for the successful delivery of key projects within the Data Center of Excellence. This role includes overseeing project management and embedding agile practices to facilitate data access, analytics, and economic insights, supporting data-driven decision-making. The Senior Project Manager will collaborate across the organization to develop data products as valuable corporate assets, emphasizing business outcomes, innovation, and transformation. Additionally, the role involves acting as an Agile coach, promoting agile practices throughout the team, and identifying, evaluating, and recommending project opportunities for the Government of Alberta (GoA) and its external partners as required.

Key Responsibilities:

• Project Management: Lead the planning, coordination, and execution of IT projects, setting deadlines, assigning tasks, and ensuring milestones are met.
• Cross-functional Collaboration: Build and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders, including team members, vendors, and departmental contacts.
• Agile Coaching: Act as an Agile coach, embedding agile best practices across the team, facilitating agile ceremonies, and fostering an environment of transparency and accountability.
• Business Outcome Focus: Align project scope, goals, and deliverables with business objectives, collaborating closely with senior leadership.
• Continuous Improvement: Promote a culture of continuous learning, agility, and collaboration within the team.

Description of Services:

• Project Coordination: Oversee all project phases, including planning, resource allocation, progress tracking, and risk management.
• Documentation: Develop project charters, business plans, and ensure IT solutions align with enterprise architecture.
• Communication: Maintain clear project communication with stakeholders, escalate risks as needed, and ensure project milestones are transparent.
• Project Monitoring: Track project status, report on objectives, milestones, budgets, and issues.
• Leadership: Mentor team members in establishing work priorities and ensuring project task delivery.
• Performance Assessment: Evaluate project outcomes, gather feedback, and identify areas for future improvement.

Duties:

The Senior Project Manager will work with the Data Center of Excellence to enable data access, analytics, and economic insights for data-informed decision-making. This includes:

• Agile Leadership: Lead Agile adoption and facilitate Agile ceremonies, coaching team members on best practices.
• Scope Alignment: Ensure project goals and deliverables are aligned with business objectives, collaborating with senior leadership.
• Strategic Guidance: Provide expert insights and recommendations to the Manager of Data Product Delivery.
• Project Oversight: Manage multiple projects concurrently, delivering regular updates to leadership.
• Team Collaboration: Foster a collaborative and agile work environment, integrating change management techniques.

Qualification Assessment:

Must Have:

• Education: Relevant education and/or professional certifications.
• Experience: 8+ years in project management; 2+ years in Agile coaching.

Nice to Have:

• Certifications: Active Scrum Master certification, PMP or PgMP, Prosci Change Management certification.
• Experience:
  • Experience in Agile methodologies, backlog management tools, and multi-project management.
  • Proven track record in delivering project documentation (e.g., charters, business cases).
  • Experience in organizational change management and Agile project delivery.
