Position: AGE Power Electrical Designer
Location: Winnipeg, Manitoba
The Opportunity:
MCW is currently looking for a self-motivated Electrical Designer to join our Winnipeg Office in the AGE Power Division of MCW Consultants Ltd. You will be involved in system studies, utility distribution design, medium/high-voltage electrical substation design, and commercial medium/high voltage design projects. Your position will play a key role in the delivery of successful projects from the Winnipeg office and will require strong leadership, collaboration, and communication skills.
Responsibilities: The responsibilities of this position may include but are not limited to the following. Training will be provided to the successful candidate(s) as required:
- Providing design and construction support services to Electric and Gas Utility Clients and Developers for overhead and underground distribution projects.
- Coordinating with stakeholders, including landowners, Transportation Authorities, Municipal Governments, Third Party Utilities, and First Nations, when required to complete the design assignments.
- Strong software skills are a key requirement, along with proficiency in mechanics of materials and applied physics and mathematics.
- Electrical design of medium/high voltage electrical substations, including physical design of switchyard equipment in consideration of equipment ratings, required clearances, and connections.
- Protection and control design implementation, including schematic design, wiring design, panel and control building layouts, cable schedules, and bills of materials.
- Conducting grounding studies and designs using CDEGS software.
- Performing field measurements for input into grounding studies, including soil resistivity measurements and fall-of-potential measurements.
- Conducting arc flash, coordination, and short circuit studies using eTAP and Easy Power software.
- Providing medium/high voltage services and designs for commercial entities, including utility coordination, feeder specification, routing, and duct bank design.
- Providing field inspection and site survey investigations when required.
- Working with company and client standards as applicable.
- Collaborating with the project team and Project Manager to ensure on-time project completion.
- Responding to technical inquiries from clients and contractors as required.
- Providing technical and administrative support through all phases of the project.
- Helping to establish and promote client relationships.
- Coordinating with internal production teams.
- Striving to ensure quality and timely delivery of finished products to clients.
Qualifications, Experience & Education:
- Bachelor of Applied Science in Electrical Engineering or College Diploma in Engineering Technology with specialization in electrical systems.
- Experience with Microsoft Office tools including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Experience working with customers and client base is an asset.
- Experience working independently and in a team-based environment is an asset.
- Experience in site investigations/field work is an asset.
- Preference will be given to candidates with relevant experience that aligns with the noted job responsibilities.

Requirement:
- Must have vehicle and valid driver’s license for the Province of Manitoba.
