Introduction
The Affiliate Director must pursue an active and growing relationship with God. The Youth Unlimited | Youth for Christ Nova Scotia (YUNS) Affiliate Director’s primary objective is to meet the needs of the local youth in the area by equipping staff and volunteers to run relevant programs and by partnering with others to make life-long followers of Jesus Christ.
The Affiliate Director shall be of reputable Christian character and must subscribe to the YFC Canada Statement of Faith and Community Covenant and all relevant policies. The Affiliate Director is responsible to the Associate Director of Chapter Development and the local Steering Committee for the management and the direction of the activities and affairs of YUNS, including development of all programs and the overall spiritual welfare of the organization.
Youth Unlimited Nova Scotia
YUNS was launched in Lower Sackville, Nova Scotia in 2017 and has been expanding to support the broader province ever since. Since the beginning, our Youth Unlimited workers have sought to meet the needs of young people where they are – socially, spiritually, physically, and mentally. We have always sought to be relevant and proactive to reach teens in the culture in which they live and to act as a signpost to God within their world.
Position Scope
SPIRITUAL AND PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT
- Is a faithful and contributing member of a local church.
- Pray for and with YFC Canada Team.
- Pursue an active and growing relationship with God.
- Spend time in spiritual reflection and development and take annual spiritual retreat.
- Become a credentialed member of the YFC religious order (i.e. Completion of the YFC Canada Credentialing process within 2 years of start date).
- Attend YFC Regional, National and Leadership Conferences each year.
- Participate in training and development courses, conferences and workshops as approved by supervisor and the local steering committee.
- Participate in Equipping Conversations training if required.
- Establish relationships for accountability and mentoring.
STAFF / VOLUNTEERS
- Work with area youth workers to facilitate their presence in the community alongside YFC staff.
- Create relevant discipleship communities for the youth served by Halifax Area YU/YFC, engaging the local church as much as possible.
- Recruit new staff and volunteers and equip them to develop programs to meet community needs.
- Supervise volunteers and staff, overseeing specialized training for volunteers in leadership roles.
- Guide volunteers in developing a personal ministry based on developing their individual gifts and abilities.
- Ensure ongoing staff development of team members, including credentialing.
- Perform regular staff reviews.
- Supervise all staff under the care of their ministry.
- Implement a yearly staff and steering committee off-site meeting for spiritual rejuvenation, team development, and planning.
- Provide counsel and guidance to others based upon Christian values and teachings.
- Mentor and encourage others in personal Christian understanding, values, character and lifestyle.
DIRECT MINISTRY
- Survey the needs of youth in the community through engagement and seek ways to meet them, including the development of programs.
- Work in partnership with area Youth Workers, Youth Ministries and other like-minded partners to:
- Reach our evangelism and outreach goals, including challenging and equipping Christian youth to reach out to their peers.
- Make contacts with principals, teachers and resource agencies in the area, striving to network with them whenever possible.
ORGANIZATION / ADMINISTRATIVE
- Meet with Steering Committee monthly for accountability, planning, vision casting, ministry development and fundraising.
- Attend all Steering Committee meetings and report on matters relating to YUNS programs, personnel, finances and facilities.
- Sit as an ex-officio member of all committees established by the Steering Committee.
- Assist in recruiting Steering Committee members.
- Develop, on an annual basis with staff assistance, a strategic plan to further the vision of YUNS.
- Work with Senior Director of Operations and the Steering Committee to establish a local Youth for Christ Canada Chartered Chapter.
- Meet weekly with supervisor for supervision and accountability.
- Keep records of Ministry activities and events as well as stats required to complete the Annual Ministry Review.
- Attend monthly YFC Canada staff calls.
- Supervise the general operations of YUNS Affiliate administration.
- Assist in developing and monitoring the YUNS annual budget.
- Supervise the development of the Steering Committees’ annual budgets.
- Oversee the general administrative activities of YUNS satellite operations.
- Adhere to YFC Canada’s policies and guidelines.
- Adhere to all applicable government regulations.
- Ensure that adequate and properly maintained facilities and equipment are available for YUNS programs and staff.
FUNDRAISING & COMMUNITY RELATIONS
- Coordinate fundraising and be accountable for budgeted Affiliate programs and expenses.
- Maintain regular communication with supporters, churches, and community leaders, sharing with them the impact of YUNS ministry programs.
- Partner with other likeminded ministry and community organizations to promote synergy of activities while advancing YUNS evangelism and outreach goals.
- Supervise all mailings and communications issued under YUNS.
- Engage community groups and churches to raise the profile of YUNS.
- Oversee and provide leadership for the fundraising events of the Steering Committees.
PERSONAL PARTNER DEVELOPMENT
- Personal partnership development – which includes securing and maintaining a sound base of financial & prayer partners to a level sufficient to fund the salary and immediate costs of this position.
- Establishing a Ministry Partner Development Plan and keeping regular contact with ministry partners through a news/prayer letter, visits, phone calls, etc.
- Gathering financial and prayer support from the Christian community.
- Build a base of prayer partners and keep them updated through regular communications and prayer request. Encourage prayer partners to pray for youth in Canada and globally.
