Mountain Plains Community Services Society of the North (MPCSSN) is a non-profit, charitable society governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. Our Society has operated numerous diverse community and family-focused programs that are designed to address the unique needs of the Northwest region of Alberta since 1972. Currently, we offer services in partnership with Alberta Health Services and Alberta Human Services.

Mountain Plains CSSN is accredited by CARF International and is a member of the ALIGN Association of Community Services as well as the Children’s Welfare League of Canada.

Role & Responsibilities:

  • To facilitate youth’s integration into normalized social, familial and recreational situations as appropriate
  • To involve parents, families, and other significant relations in the youth’s development, as appropriate
  • To deliver educational material to the clients through an individual or group setting
  • To carry out interventions in a way that promotes the opportunity for change
  • To work with and understand family dynamics, and support parents and their needs as they arise
  • To remain calm, consistent, and supportive when working through a behavior with a client
  • To use physical restraints safely, ethically and always as a last resort, to ensure safety of the clients
  • To promote physical and emotional safety for clients served, providing emotional support using a variety of counselling skills as required
  • To complete all documentation within established timelines
  • To be familiar with and execute the policies and procedures of the program and the agency
  • To follow professional protocols when communicating with team members, clients, families and funders
  • To take initiative in enhancing and developing programming

Hiring Requirements:

  • Degree or 2 Year Diploma in Child and Youth Care, or related human services field.
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s License
  • Driver’s Abstract
  • Clear Criminal Records Check
  • Clear Children’s Service Intervention Record Check.
  • Vehicle Insurance stating $2 million liability and access to a reliable vehicle

Hiring Assets:

  • Knowledge of supporting youth struggling with Mental Health concerns and High-Risk lifestyles
  • Experience as a childcare worker, support worker, addictions/mental health worker
