Accounts Payable Coordinator

The Municipality of North Cowichan (population 30,000) is located in the beautiful Cowichan Valley on Southern Vancouver Island, between Nanaimo and Victoria. The successful candidate will be the primary liaison for accounts payable issues and inquiries and will assist the Accountant and others to prioritize and perform a broad range of duties relating to the efficient operation of the Finance Department. The position ensures timely processing of all accounts payable transactions including purchase card administration and ensures accounts payable policies and procedures are followed and maintained. Examples of duties include downloading, maintaining and distributing spreadsheets for cell phone usage, maintaining sub-ledger for legal expenses, maintaining holdback sub-ledger, and maintaining spreadsheets for hydro and natural gas usage. The successful candidate must possess strong work ethics, perform tasks accurately and be achievement oriented. Deployment to other duties may be required from time to time.

Required Skills, Qualifications and Abilities:

  1. Completion of Grade 12 preferred. GED will be accepted.
  2. Enrollment in CPA program or equivalent combination of training and experience.
  3. Five years related municipal office experience, at least two years of which is in Accounts Payable.
  4. Possession and maintenance of a valid Class 5 B.C. Driver's Licence; a satisfactory current driver's abstract will be required.
  5. Demonstrable written and oral communication skills, public relations skills, and practical problem solving ability.
  6. Demonstrable ability to comprehend and analyze municipal financial reporting documents.
  7. Demonstrable keyboard skills with a minimum speed of 50 wpm, and demonstrable ability to work within a VADIM and Windows environment, including word processing, spreadsheets, data base, filing and record keeping.
  8. Demonstrable ability to complete multiple tasks in a demanding multi-faceted environment.
  9. Independence of judgment, and capability of working with minimal supervision.

Candidates being considered will be required to undergo a comprehensive evaluation of skills, qualifications, and abilities. The successful candidate will be required to undergo a police information check.
