Position Title: Accounting Technician (.6 FTE - 21 hours per week)
Position Summary: The Accounting Technician in General Accounting provides comprehensive support to the General Accounting team, other areas within Finance and to various internal departments as needed. This position is accountable for activities related to completion of the monthly bank reconciliations including the preparation and co-ordination of various journal entries related to banking transactions for entry into Banner and investigation and correction of discrepancies between the bank and the general ledger. The Accounting Technician ensures the accuracy of the transactions impacting the Polytechnic’s bank accounts, which funnel through a variety of revenue service streams. A solid understanding of how the various revenue sources feed into the bank and a strong attention to detail is essential to ensuring accurate and timely reconciliation of the Polytechnic bank accounts.
The Accounting Technician prepares various financial information and conducts financial analysis for the Campus Alberta Central (CAC) Joint Venture. This includes the provision of assistance to the Controller with preparing the financial statements and notes for CAC and the provision of financial information to various internal and external stakeholders, as needed. The Accounting Technician assists with the completion of various other financial reporting requirements as needed, monitors fiscal deadlines and ensures accuracy & timeliness with adherence to deadlines while complying with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Public Sector Accounting Standards (PSAS) as well as other accounting legislation and Polytechnic policies.
