Job description
Under general direction, the Accounting Supervisor performs advanced level professional accounting work and supervises the work and personnel of one or more major areas of accounting.

Responsibilities:

  1. Develops work plans and schedules, then prioritizes and supervises work assigned to employees to meet prescribed objectives and deadlines.
  2. Assigns and supervises the work of accountants engaged in the preparation of budgets, various reports and variance analyses.
  3. Prepares and/or supervises the preparation of major schedules and work papers and certifies the accuracy of summary information.
  4. Develops, installs and maintains budgeting systems which provide control of expenditures made to carry out activities.
  5. Advises management regarding expenditures and methods for preventing budgetary deficits.
  6. Assigns work to workers and reviews completed work to ensure that work is completed in accordance with standard operating policies and procedures.
  7. Evaluates employees work performance and makes recommendations for improving and upgrading their skills.
  8. Recommends or initiates personnel actions such as promotions, transfers and disciplinary measures.
  9. Trains and orients new employees to the routines of the operation; interprets company policies on workers.
  10. Interprets company policies to workers and enforces safety regulations.

Qualifications:

  1. Thorough knowledge of accounting theory, practices, and procedures as related to a variety of financial transactions.
  2. Sound knowledge of accounting systems and control.
  3. Ability to apply accounting theory and principles to a wide variety of transactions.
  4. Ability to prepare and present standard financial reports.
  5. Ability to prioritize, plan and coordinate tasks.
  6. Ability to supervise the activities of Accountants I and II.
  7. Ability to establish work standards and procedures.
  8. Ability to analyze accounting records and reports in accordance with the generally accepted principles of accounting, as well as with pertinent rules and regulations.
  9. Ability to prepare complex accounting and financial reports.
  10. Ability to express oneself clearly and concisely in oral and written communication.
  11. Ability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships.
  12. Knowledge of PC and different software applications, including spreadsheets and Excel.
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in finance or accounting and a minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in applying accounting theory and principles to a wide variety of transactions including budget preparation.
