Position Summary:
As Accounting Manager at Today’s Family, you will play a crucial role in upholding the financial integrity and operational efficiency of our organization. In addition to overseeing key accounting functions such as financial reporting, budget management, and system improvements, you will lead and mentor a team of accounting professionals. Your leadership will drive excellence within the finance department, ensuring accurate and timely financial operations while supporting our mission to provide high-quality child care services. This role offers a unique opportunity to influence accounting processes, foster team development, and contribute to continuous improvement efforts.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Financial Reporting: Prepare and analyze financial statements in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) for internal and external reporting purposes.
- Budgeting and Forecasting: Assist in the development and monitoring of annual budgets and forecasts to ensure alignment with organizational goals and objectives.
- Accounts Payable and Receivable: Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable functions, including processing invoices, reconciling accounts, and communicating with vendors and clients as needed.
- General Ledger Maintenance: Maintain accurate and up-to-date general ledger accounts by recording journal entries, reconciling balances, and performing monthly and year-end closing procedures.
- Grant Accounting: Coordinate with operational managers to ensure compliance with grant funding requirements, including budgeting, reporting, and reimbursement processes.
- Audit Support: Assist in the preparation for annual financial audits, including gathering documentation, answering inquiries, and implementing audit recommendations.
- Financial Analysis: Conduct ad hoc financial analysis to support decision-making processes and identify opportunities for operational improvement.
- Systems Change: Drive systems change initiatives within the finance department to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and effectiveness of accounting processes and reporting systems.
- Assessment: Conduct regular assessments of accounting procedures, controls, and systems to identify areas for improvement and implement solutions to optimize financial operations.
- Compliance: Stay abreast of relevant accounting regulations and ensure compliance with federal, provincial, and local financial reporting requirements.
- Process Improvement: Identify inefficiencies in accounting processes and recommend and implement solutions to streamline operations and enhance accuracy and efficiency.
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Collaborate with other departments and stakeholders to provide financial expertise and support organizational initiatives.
You bring the following qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or progress towards CPA certification preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of accounting or finance experience, preferably in a non-profit setting, with at least 1 year in a leadership or supervisory role.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Adagio) and Microsoft Excel; strong understanding of GAAP and non-profit accounting principles.
- Demonstrated experience in leading and developing a team, with effective leadership skills and the ability to inspire and manage accounting professionals.
- Excellent analytical skills with attention to detail and the ability to conduct thorough financial analysis.
- Communication: Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the capability to collaborate effectively across departments and with external stakeholders.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, manage time effectively, and adapt to a fast-paced environment.
