Our client Arctic Gateway Group (AGG) is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Accounting Manager to support its accounting team.
AGG owns and operates the Port of Churchill, Canada’s only Arctic seaport serviced by rail, and the Hudson Bay Railway, running from The Pas to Churchill, Manitoba. AGG subsidiaries are strategically located on the West Coast of Hudson Bay, linking Indigenous and northern Manitoba communities and providing Western resource companies with access to the global marketplace. The company is currently in the midst of transformational capital upgrades which will shape the future of Manitoba for generations to come.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in full cycle accounting, with the ability to review and analyse financial data; and provide daily operational support to the Controller. This role involves supervising staff and providing guidance and support to their daily accounting activities.
Responsibilities:
Supervise and mentor the accounting team, ensuring accuracy and timelines are met
Full cycle bookkeeping including month end/year end processes, journal entries, accounts receivable, account payable, payroll and working papers
Ensure deadlines are met for Federal and Provincial remittances
Manage reconciliation of bank accounts, expenses and corporate credit cards
Support Government Grant Funding reporting and data analysis
Review reconciliation and reporting for inventory control
Prepare various reports that support business decisions
Assisting in the design and implementation of improvement to accounting workflows
Supports ad hoc projects that add value to the organization
Qualifications
Secondary Accounting Diploma or equivalent experience in similar role would be considered
3 to 5 years experience in full cycle accounting with a minimum of 2 years supervisory experience
Strong understanding of accounting principles and full cycle accounting
Proficient in accounting software and Microsoft Office – preference with QBO, Dext, Approval Max or other related software
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
Strong leadership and organizational skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
Experience with Government Grant Funding reporting considered an asset
Experience with using a payroll service considered an asset
