Accounting Controller

Ellison Travel & Tours is seeking keen and enthusiastic individuals who would like to join the Ellison team as a controller in our London office.

Job Overview:

As Controller, you will oversee and engage with our accounting and payroll team in this hands-on leadership role and be responsible for driving the day-to-day operations within the department, as well as financial reporting and analysis for the company. In turn, you will provide recommendations to ownership and management for cost-efficiencies from an accounting and operations perspective.

High-level Goals:

1. Ensure Efficient Accounting Operations and Team Leadership: Lead and supervise accounting and payroll operations (Team of 4), fostering a productive and collaborative team environment while ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
2. Deliver Comprehensive Financial Reporting and Analysis: Prepare and analyze monthly and annual budgets and financial reports, providing actionable insights and recommendations for senior management to support strategic decisions.
3. Ensure Compliance with Financial and Regulatory Standards: Maintain adherence to regulatory requirements (CRA, TICO, BCPA, IATA) by managing audit processes and keeping accurate, compliant business records.
4. Optimize Systems and Processes Across Departments: Collaborate with management to integrate systems, address inefficiencies, and recommend improvements for streamlined financial and operational performance.
5. Manage Cash Flow, Foreign Currency, and Insurance Needs: Oversee and assist with cash flow, foreign currency strategies, and commercial insurance, ensuring these are managed in alignment with business needs and provincial regulations for travel insurance sales.

Qualifications:

• 8-10 years in a similar position with supervisory/management experience
• CPA designation or working towards designation
• Vehicle and licence to work occasionally in Exeter as needed.
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field (master’s is an asset)
• Strong leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
• In-depth understanding of Canadian regulations
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, project-driven environment.
• Strong analytical skills with an ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from management.
• Advanced Excel skills and proficiency in financial modeling. Hands-on/expert in the accounting systems
• Public Practice an asset
• Technological literacy – ability to adapt to changing technology and systems
• Ability to manage workloads and changing priorities.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills for interacting with executives, project managers, employees, departments, and stakeholders.
• Ability to learn/adapt to new software.
• Knowledge of travel industry and trust accounting an asset. General knowledge of payroll and Employment Standards Act an asset.
