Job Description
Job Title: Assistant Controller
Work Group: Accounting
FLSA Status: Exempt

General Purpose of the Job:
Responsible for supervision of a portion of the accounting department and providing support to the Controller. Approves payables documents, ACHs and wire transfers on a daily basis. Records monthly entries for the 300+ Housing Revenue Bond (HRB) trust statements and balances investments, cash and transfers. Prepares quarterly Housing Revenue Bond (HRB) financial statements and supporting schedules. Responsible for the accounting function for the Section 8 rental assistance programs, Hardest Hit program, State Inter-fund transactions and Down payment Assistance (DAP) programs. Provides backup support and guidance to the Senior Staff Accountant-Payroll. Prepares annual Real Estate Assessment Center (REAC) submission for all programs and the annual Schedule of Expenditure of Federal Awards (SEFA) disclosure. Provides support to external auditors during the annual independent audit.

This position requires strong analytical and reasoning abilities, superior numeric skills, good problem-solving skills, and general working knowledge of federal tax laws and guidelines. This position requires an ability to fairly and effectively work with a wide variety of people and groups, including staff, vendors, partners, and the public. This position requires skill in planning, organizing, assigning, managing and coordinating activities of staff; effective time management; presenting ideas effectively; dealing constructively with conflict and developing consensus; selecting, supervising, training, evaluating staff and delegating responsibilities. Position requires knowledge of KHC purchasing/procurement policy and procedures.
Knowledge of state and/or federal housing programs helpful.
Education Requirements:
This level of knowledge would normally be acquired through completion of a Bachelor’s Degree program in Accounting; Business Administration; Finance or related field. An additional four years’ related experience may substitute for degree requirements.
Certification Requirements:
CPA license preferred. May substitute with 5 years government accounting experience, including financial statement preparation experience.
Experience Requirements:
Position requires a minimum of four years’ experience working in a progressively responsible accounting, budgeting or finance role in a corporate or government environment. Experience supervising staff preferred.
