Position Summary
Reporting to Supervisor, Accounting, this position is responsible for financial analytical support including month-end and year-end reconciliations and reporting as well as audit activities (compilation of audit working papers, year-end financial reports and Financial Information Return).
Major Job Responsibilities
- Performs Month-End activities, including preparation of regular reconciliations of a variety of balance sheet, income statement, interfund accounts, analysis and journal entries to allocate costs and revenues.
- Completes sales tax related reporting and analysis, including calculation of HST self-assessment, monthly Sales Tax Reporting to Canada Revenue Agency, research on Sales Tax application, support for the annual ITC recovery calculation done by consultants and tax review for out of province/country purchases.
- Prepares inventory analysis, reconciliation and reporting including winter control and fuel.
- Prepares financial analysis for Milton Community Fund application submissions and provides an opinion on the financial viability of each organization applying for funding and makes funding recommendations for the consideration of the Community Services Advisory Committee (CSAC).
- Provides financial analytical support for day-to-day activities, supporting departments with financial research, data collection, variance and account analysis, and reconciliations as required.
- Provides back-up to Supervisor, Accounting by approving various accounting requests.
- Monitors daily banking activity investigating any unusual transactions including analyzing and investigating variances between Town's financial records and bank statements.
- Maintains account security in accounting modules of various Town systems.
- Performs equipment costing related tasks including charge out rate updates and new vehicle set up.
- Responsible for financial reporting, audit and year-end processes, including assistance with Financial Statement Preparation by compiling a number of Financial Statement Notes including tangible capital asset reporting (continuity schedule, gain/losses, etc.), completing Financial Information Return schedules related to tangible capital assets and preparing audit working papers and support documentation for the audit folders.
- Investigates and leads process improvements, economies of scale, etc. that provide financial benefit to the department and taxpayer, conducting analyses and recommending actions to be taken.
- Researches issues/best practices and develops recommendations to be applied in business processes.
- Identifies system improvements across a variety of accounting modules, enhancing department workflows, minimizing errors, and ensuring efficient transaction processing.
- Accounting liaison on a variety of Finance, Corporate Services or Town wide projects.
Education & Experience- Post-secondary degree in Business, Finance and/or Accounting.
- Three (3) years of experience in accounting/financial analysis and developing and working with financial models.
- Three (3) years of experience with the year-end and auditing processes.
- Three (3) years of experience in municipal finance.
- Professional accounting designation (CPA).
- Knowledge of Public Sector Account Board (PSAB) standards.
- Understanding of industry-specific legislative financial reporting requirements, such as the Financial Information Return (FIR) and annual Financial Statements.
- Experience in cost accounting, strong financial accounting and analytical skills.
- Proficient in Windows based software including Microsoft Office applications with Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Attention to detail, strong accounting and analytical skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team, with strong communication, organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to work under pressure, handle multiple demands, adapt to changing priorities, deal with interruptions and determine priority of action.
- Proficiency in Enterprise Resource Planning type systems and financial software (such as Workday, CMIC, FMW, CaseWare, etc.) is an asset.

Annual Salary Range: $75,374 - $94,218 (based on a 35 hour week)
