Accountant

We are seeking a bilingual (Spanish/English) accountant to work under the supervision of the Group Controller in our Newmarket location. The accountant will be the primary liaison between Canadian headquarters and local operations in Mexico, and be responsible for the typical functions of an accountant - primarily the timely and accurate production, development and maintenance of financial reporting.

Key responsibilities include:

• Assist our Mexico team with accounting operations, including AR, AP, GL and overall financial monitoring and support.
• Monthly budget vs actual analysis.
• Coordinate preparation of monthly financial reports.
• Assist in financial security by monitoring internal controls.
• Answer questions on accounting procedures by researching and interpreting accounting policies and regulations.
• Comply with legal requirements by reviewing legislation, ensuring compliance and advising management on actions to be taken in this regard.
• Prepare special financial reports by collecting, analyzing and summarizing account information and trends required by Mexican authorities.

Required qualifications:

• Strong fluency in both Spanish and English.
• A degree in accounting, finance or other relevant field, or a suitable combination of education and work experience.
• Minimum of two years experience in financial management.
• Attention to detail and general mathematical skills, including strong Excel/ spreadsheet experience.
• Able to travel to Mexico (10-15%).
• CPA (or CPA student) is an asset.
• Knowledge of Mexican government standards for procurement, payroll and auditing is an asset.
