Role Description
Reporting to the VP, Agriculture Research and Development, the Research and Development Specialist will be responsible for the execution of all operational and technical aspects of research trials including site selection, planning and design of experiments, and small plot activities.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Planning and preparation of field trial layouts and maps, ensuring availability of material required for trials in a timely manner.
- Performing field work including planting, spraying, irrigating, scouting, harvesting, and grading of field research plots.
- Conducting crop pest and disease assessments and soil and tissue sampling.
- Ensuring that data collection is recorded according to pre-established methodology and that data is processed and interpreted through adequate statistical analysis.
- Applying standard quality control procedures to assure accuracy of test results, updating and developing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Preparing an Annual, Monthly, Weekly, and Daily activities schedule to organize time and resources required.
- Creating and managing an annual operational activity plan for the Ag Research program including people demand forecasting, cost management, and purchasing of materials and equipment required.
- Performing all other duties as assigned.
Your Qualifications
As the Senior Research Scientist, you possess an advanced degree in a relevant field, coupled with a significant track record of experience in Agronomy, Plant Science, or any relevant field. You should demonstrate exceptional problem-solving abilities, leadership skills, the capacity to collaborate, and a willingness to learn.
- Bachelor's in Agriculture, Crop Science, Plant Genetics, or Agronomy is required.
- Relevant years of experience in Agronomy, Plant Science, or any relevant field is required.
- Work experience in potato crops is preferred.
- Ability and desire to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented research environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Attention to detail and willingness to learn.
- Experience in the use of Microsoft applications and database programs.
