Accident Benefits Law Clerk

Our Client, a well-established law firm, is looking for an experienced Accident Benefits Law Clerk with 4+ years in A/B Insurance Defence to join their highly respected team. Salary: Up to $85K

Key Responsibilities

  1. Assisting with drafting pleadings, LAT forms and motion materials.
  2. Review and organize new file materials from client, and updated file materials.
  3. Paperless/Hard Copy briefing of files and summarizing documents.
  4. Preparation of examinations for discovery, mediation, case conference, hearings, EUO’s, and appellate matters.
  5. Monitoring and reviewing productions and providing counsel with a pre-discovery (or pre-hearing), pre-case conference, post-case conference list of productions/documents/information to request from counsel.
  6. Update medical summaries and OCF-18 chart (Treatment and Assessment Plan) chart.
  7. All aspects of arranging, preparing briefs, hearing preparation including managing and scheduling expert witnesses for preparation sessions and hearing, liaising IME facilities etc.
  8. Maintain knowledge and comply with the firm’s practice and file management policies and procedures.
  9. Docket time and billings accordingly.
  10. Effective management of deadlines and priorities.
  11. Administrative duties, only as required.

Qualifications

  1. Minimum 4+ years experience of Accident Benefits in Insurance Defence.
  2. College Law Clerk Diploma or Institute of Law Clerks Ontario Certificate.
  3. An understanding of the Statutory Accident Benefits Schedule (SABS) and Rules of Civil Procedure.
  4. Strong technical skills including Microsoft Office, Kofax PDF, ProLaw.
  5. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  6. Highly organized with strong time management skills with the ability to multi-task and prioritize deadlines.
  7. Ability to process a high volume of documentation with excellent attention to detail.
  8. Flexible and dependable with ability to work in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities.
  9. Demonstrates discretion, sound judgment and diplomacy in dealing with confidential matters.
  10. Professional and team-oriented with strong interpersonal and client service skills.
