Job description

Our large retail client is seeking an Accessibility Tester to join their team. In this consultant role, you will verify newly introduced applications and modify existing critical systems. You will participate in test execution to ensure the software created by developers is fit for purpose and complies with all the accessibility regulations.

Core duties of the role include analysis of software and systems, risk mitigation, and prevention of production software issues.

What You Will Do

  • Participate in development projects and release cycles as an application subject matter expert.
  • Ensure digital applications are fully tested and conform to WCAG standards with the common goal of ensuring frictionless implementation of technology across the organization.
  • Contribute as an active team member to Agile projects. Be accountable for understanding user story content, determining test approaches, creating tasks, and providing daily progress updates to team members.
  • As an accessibility tester, you will work closely with developers and designers to suggest modifications or improvements to enhance the product’s accessibility. This collaboration ensures accessibility considerations are integrated into the development process.
  • While focusing on accessibility, you will also evaluate the overall user experience of the product. This includes assessing usability aspects such as navigation, interaction design, and overall user satisfaction.
  • Provide recommendations on the severity and impact of identified technical issues.
  • Write, execute, and validate test cases, document results, create any required defects, and assign them to the development team for review. Test cases may be executed on a variety of technologies including desktop, mobile etc.
  • Staying current with the latest trends and advancements in web accessibility is crucial.
  • You’ll need to continuously research new tools, techniques, and guidelines to enhance your testing skills and keep pace with evolving accessibility standards.
  • You may also be responsible for conducting training sessions or workshops to educate developers, designers, and other stakeholders about best practices for creating accessible digital products.

Experience

  • Previous accessibility testing experience, including hands-on test software proficiency: JIRA, Confluence, qTest.
  • Previous experience in an Agile project environment.
  • Ability to prioritize critical path activities, achieve project milestones, and meet deliverables.
  • Ability to interpret acceptance criteria and high-level testing scenarios into test cases.
  • Capable of adapting to changing technologies.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
