As an ABB 800xA Controls Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, configuring, and commissioning ABB 800xA Distributed Control Systems (DCS) for oil and gas projects. You will work with clients and project teams to integrate process control solutions that enhance operational performance and meet strict industry safety standards.
This role will be on site 7 and 7 Shift. 1 year contract with opportunity for extension or permanent employment.

Responsibilities
Design and configure ABB 800xA Distributed Control Systems (DCS) for oil and gas applications, ensuring seamless integration with process equipment and safety systems.
Develop and implement process control strategies, including control loops, alarms, graphics, and communication interfaces with third-party systems.
Collaborate with process engineers, project managers, and clients to define control system requirements and develop project specifications.
Lead the commissioning and startup of ABB 800xA systems, from Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) to Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), ensuring systems are fully functional and meet client expectations.
Provide advanced troubleshooting and support for ABB 800xA systems, diagnosing issues and implementing optimization strategies to improve system performance.
Ensure all control systems comply with industry standards such as ISA, API, and relevant safety regulations.
Develop and maintain technical documentation, including Functional Design Specifications (FDS), I/O lists, and control logic diagrams.
Perform software upgrades, system modifications, and expansions to enhance system capabilities and ensure continuous operation.
Train end-users and site personnel on the operation and maintenance of ABB 800xA systems, providing technical expertise to ensure effective system use.
Keep abreast of new ABB technologies, ensuring that DEG Engineering’s solutions are always on the cutting edge.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems Engineering, Automation, or a related field.
5+ years of experience working with ABB 800xA Distributed Control Systems in the oil and gas industry.
Proven experience in designing and commissioning ABB 800xA systems, including I/O configuration, control loops, and alarm management.
Strong knowledge of process automation and control system integration, particularly in oil and gas applications.
Experience with field devices and instrumentation, such as PLCs, SIS, and communication protocols (Modbus, OPC, etc.).
Familiarity with industry standards (ISA, API) and safety regulations specific to the oil and gas sector.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot and optimize DCS systems in critical operations.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.
Knowledge of cybersecurity practices in industrial automation systems is an asset.
