The Resorts of the Canadian Rockies Inc / Nakiska Resort: Looking to fill a full-time 2nd or 3rd year Apprentice Maintenance Electrician position.

You will work closely with our Maintenance Department teams to use your knowledge and experience as an Electrician. If you enjoy hands-on work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment and love the mountain lifestyle, this is the right job for you.

What your work looks like: We seek Journeyman or apprentice electricians with relevant Mountain Resort and Ski Industry experience. With a consistent focus on safety, the Electrician will also have a history of producing quality work with attention to detail that meets or exceeds industry standards.

Selected candidates can be expected to:

  1. Install, examine, replace or repair AC/DC Motors and Drives, PLC’s, 480 volt power, 120 volt control circuits, transformers, motors, starters, relays and electrical controls.
  2. Install, examine, replace or repair electrical wiring, receptacles, switch boxes, conduits, feeders, fiber-optic and coaxial cable assemblies, lighting fixtures and other electrical components.
  3. Install, examine, replace or repair generators, alternators and industrial storage batteries.
  4. Size and install electrical circuits including panels, wire size and type, conduit, protective devices, switches, and related equipment needed to comply with the CEC and/or CSA Z-98.
  5. Fabricate, install and/or run conduit, 3-Phase work, motor terminations, control and instrument troubleshooting and panel work.
  6. Test electrical and electronic equipment and components for continuity, current, voltage and resistance.
  7. Perform preventive maintenance inspections and testing of various electrical systems (including electrical for facility maintenance and operations).
  8. Correct wiring and connections on machinery controls where incorrect applications could cause damage and hazardous conditions.
  9. Conduct preventive maintenance programs and keep maintenance records.
  10. Work on systems operating at 240 volts, 480 volts wye, 480 volts delta, 4160 volt switchgear, transformers and motors by following electrical drawings and using test instruments such as voltmeters, ammeters and PC’s, scope and other diagnostic tools.
  11. Read and interpret drawings, blueprints, schematics and electrical code specifications to determine layout of industrial electrical equipment installations.
  12. Quickly repair electrical failures and replace parts where up time of Ski Lifts can be affected.
  13. Comply with standards and procedures of the RCR Policy & Safety Manual and Occupational Health and Safety Regulations.

Qualifications:

  1. 2nd or 3rd year registered AIT apprentice Electrician.
  2. 2 – 5 years experience as an electrician performing electrical maintenance and installation in a resort environment.
  3. Possess a high degree of initiative, creativity, communication skills, self-supervision, and respect for safety requirements.
  4. Be a team player and work closely with maintenance, operations, engineering and outside services when needed.
  5. Have a flexible work schedule – overtime and weekends and schedule changes as required of this position especially during winter season.
  6. Be proficient in fundamentals of lockout/tagout.
  7. Have knowledge or ability to interpret the Canadian Electric Code and CSA Z-98 code.
  8. Be able to understand a project request from upper management, lay it out, determine and order materials needed and be responsible for successful completion and start-up.
  9. Possess the ability to read electrical schematics, diagrams, and blueprints.
  10. Be experienced in performing preventive maintenance tasks, taking corrective action for repairs, and be knowledgeable in electrical equipment installations.
  11. Have experience with AC & DC motors and drives and PLC’s.
  12. Be able to climb ladders, towers and have no fear of working at heights with proper PPE.

  2. Valid Class 5 drivers’ license and a clean Drivers Abstract.

  4. Proof of current apprentice position, AIT blue book up to date.
