Instructional Designer (PS4)

Location: Central Office - Ivany Campus, Dartmouth, Nova Scotia

Centre for Teaching and Learning

Term, Part-time Position (50%): Approximately February 3, 2025 - September 30, 2025

The salary scale for Professional Support 4 is based in twelve steps that range from $74,104.27 - $98,521.32. New Professional Support may receive up to a maximum of seven steps for relevant occupational experience, which is $86,294.89 annually (position is 50% and will be pro-rata of the full amount).

Qualifications

  • The minimum educational qualification for this position is a university undergraduate degree and a recognized Professional Certification/Designation in Instructional Design or equivalent combination of education credentials and certifications within the subject area.
  • You have a minimum of five years (full time equivalent) of recent and relevant experience in the area of developing, designing and supporting online courses and programs.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Deaf culture and fluency in American Sign Language (ASLPI 4 or above).
  • Preferred experience in curriculum design for programs in Deaf education or interpreting services.
  • You have demonstrated knowledge of adult learning techniques and assessment strategies with experience with educational technologies.
  • You are aware of Universal Design for Learning and culturally responsive pedagogy and have experience incorporating these principles into course design.
  • You are familiar and comfortable using a Mac platform, Microsoft Office suite, Adobe tools, and Canva.
  • Demonstrated fluency in industry standard software and technologies.
  • Experience with eLearning authoring software packages such as Articulate Storyline and Camtasia is considered an asset.
  • Experience working with a learning management system, such as Brightspace, would be considered an asset.
  • You are comfortable working in a digital environment; you take responsibility for acquiring knowledge about advancing technology, and you are committed to using technology to create an exceptional student experience.

  • You are known for your problem solving and critical thinking skills.
  • You have exceptional organizational skills, are detail oriented, self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Experience working in an adult learning environment and Deaf studies would be considered an asset.
  • Experience working in curriculum development would be considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • You will be working as an integral part of the team supporting ASL and Deaf Interpreter programming.
  • You will be responsible for the design, development, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of instructional materials, activities, and assessment tools for NSCC online/blended ASL courses and programs.
  • You will work closely with various NSCC groups including other instructional designers, production assistants, curriculum consultants, subject matter experts, and faculty.
  • You will collaborate with external stakeholders within the Deaf community such as industry representatives and community organizations.
  • You are current and comfortable with the latest technologies and Deaf education.
