Position Summary

Reporting to the Senior Advisor & Director, Business Planning, the Business Analyst is involved in the design or modification of business processes or IT systems. The Business Analyst interacts with the business stakeholders and subject matter experts to understand their problems and needs. The analyst gathers, documents, and analyzes business needs and requirements and bridges the knowledge with IT and various other departments.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitating discussions to capture the business needs and translating them into requirements for change, including:
    • Gathering requirements through techniques such as:
      • One-on-One Interviews
      • Workshops
      • Prototyping
      • Walkthroughs
  • Documenting the requirements, including:
    • Business Requirement documents
    • Functional Requirement documents
    • User Stories
  • Creating additional project supporting documents, such as:
    • Requirement Traceability Matrices
    • Test Plans
    • Test Cases
    • Production Support documentation
    • User Guides
    • Training Guides
  • Ensuring the business requirements are met by:
    • Creating Test Cases
    • Testing the development work
    • Updating the development team on defects
    • Testing the deployment in production
    • Creating User Guides
  • Aiding the business in coordination, communication, and completion of tasks by effectively managing a team with specific roles and tasks, including:
    • Facilitating meetings
    • Creating Project Charters
    • Capturing and enforcing Action Items and Decisions
    • Creating Communication plans
    • Providing regular status updates to projects

  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with stakeholders from CEO and Executives to SMEs

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary degree in Business or Computing
  • 3-5 years of experience in IT system implementations, business process improvements, and business process re-engineering.
  • Certificate of Capability in Business Analysis (CCBA) and/or Foundation Certificate in Business Analysis is an asset.
  • Experience with Atlassian products such as Jira and Confluence.
  • Equivalencies may be considered.
