JOB TITLE: SENIOR COST ENGINEER

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Turning data into actionable information for decision makers.
2. Improving cost control tools, processes, and procedures.
3. Developing more junior team members.
4. Partnering with various project managers and budget holders to support them in managing their budgets.
5. Preparing timely and accurate cost reports on a periodic basis in consultation with budget holders and Project Managers.
6. Coordinating with project engineers to clarify any queries/discrepancies and assist in the identification and mitigation of project risks.
7. Monitoring costs and generating variance reports as required, forwarding them to the budget holder and Project Manager for their perusal.
8. Working out forecasts for various line items of the cost report in consultation with project team members.
9. Carrying out assessments of potential variations/claims from sub-contractors/vendors.
10. Assisting Project Engineers in preparing additional cost analysis as deemed necessary.
11. Participating in project review meetings, if required, and providing any cost-related data as necessary.
12. Interfacing and providing clarification to project engineers and Accounts, offering assistance wherever required.
13. Proposing new suggestions and keeping the process of effective cost control updated.
14. Developing a historical cost database of a project for future reference.
15. Providing training and guidance to new/junior Cost Control personnel.
16. Solving complex problems by drawing on other technical and business resources, serving as a resource in solving difficult problems, and setting ambitious goals and high standards of performance.
17. Communicating in a way that promotes understanding and support at all levels of the immediate organization, presenting information and ideas in a manner appropriate to the audience.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

1. Few years in Oil & Gas or related process industry cost function, preferably internationally, including large projects with increasing responsibility and team supervision.
2. Quantity Surveying qualification looked on favorably.
3. Proven fully developed cost control skill sets.
4. Ability to lead the development of standards, processes, and procedures.
5. Capability to develop project budgets using common structures.
6. Able to prepare cost forecasts to meet the needs of project management.
7. Performing detailed variance analysis (quantities, costs, hours, productivity, etc.).
8. Checking the quality of work by subordinates.
9. Understanding estimating techniques.
10. Able to review and develop estimates for scope and trend changes.
11. Fully understanding WBS requirements throughout the project lifecycle.
