The opportunity:
A new and exciting opportunity as a Privacy Officer has been created in our Enterprise Risk and Compliance team. Reporting to the Head of Technology Risk, Data Protection & Privacy, the Privacy Officer will develop, manage, implement and monitor the privacy framework and programs.
This role is pivotal in ensuring the organisation’s compliance with privacy laws and regulator expectations through identifying, assessing and facilitating practices to address privacy risks that could impact Australia’s operational effectiveness. This opportunity can be based in either Melbourne or Sydney.
To do this successfully you will:
- Develop and enforce internal compliance policies and compliance standards, to establish standards for honesty and integrity
- Develop, manage and refine, Australia’s privacy program to identify, assess and mitigate exposure to privacy risks effectively and efficiently
- Lead the identification of key privacy risks and mitigation strategies, and the ongoing assessment of compliance status against our obligations
- Review and assess if appropriate safeguards/processes are in place for collection, storage, access, purging and destruction across the information life cycle
- Embed awareness of privacy requirements as well as the continuous enhancement of coherent and appropriate infrastructure of policies, processes and reporting mechanism, to track, monitor and address potential privacy risks and compliance
- Provide SME support, where required, in liaison with regulators and provision of responses to regulatory enquiries relating to privacy and protection of personal information
- Coordinate responses to privacy breaches, ensuring appropriate reporting and remediation occurs
- Creation and presentation of privacy related analysis and recommendations to committees, Board and Regulators as required
- Supporting the CRO, GM Risk, Head of Technology Risk, Data Protection & Privacy, Head of Operations and Reporting and GM Compliance in the internal and external risk and compliance reporting processes which supports an ongoing evaluation of risk profiles and compliance plans
Successful applications will demonstrate:
- Experience in a specialist privacy, legal and/or compliance related role
- Relevant tertiary, legal, compliance or related professional qualifications. Postgraduate qualifications preferred.
- Strong relationship/stakeholder management skills
- Excellent communication and presentation skills – written and verbal; with the ability to engage and influence, including senior business stakeholders and decision makers
- Capability to manage multiple stakeholder priorities and manage conflicting workloads
- Awareness of Australian and relevant international privacy regulations
- Experience in developing and implementing privacy programs in an environment where private and sensitive information is involved.
