About the role

The Director of the Office to the Deputy Secretary is the driving force behind the success of the Deputy Secretary and Executive Directors in their leadership of the division. This role is all about turning strategy into action—leading projects, managing communications, and offering sharp, strategic advice to help achieve the Department's objectives. The Director will work at the heart of decision-making, ensuring that key initiatives run smoothly, while supporting the Deputy Secretary with executive and secretariat services. Your ability to think ahead and keep things on track will be crucial in making a real impact on the Department's goals.

About you

You are a strategic leader with a strong track record in driving initiatives and managing complex projects. Your proactive communication skills and ability to liaise with stakeholders ensure smooth execution and timely delivery of projects. Your ability to think critically and strategically, while balancing operational demands, ensures that plans are not only executed efficiently but also contribute to long-term success. You have proven experience in project management, with a knack for turning high-level goals into actionable steps that lead to measurable outcomes.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Knowledge of and commitment to implementing the Department's Aboriginal Education Policy and upholding the Department's Partnership Agreement with the NSW AECG to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people.
  • Demonstrated extensive experience at a senior level in large complex organisation.
  • Appropriate tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline such as education, business, management, social sciences or communications, and/or equivalent knowledge and experience.
  • Hold a valid clearance to work with children (Working with Children Check).
  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the value of public education.
