The Research Engineer / Data Researcher / Research Analyst will play a key role in supporting Product Development Innovation and Technology Strategy within the automotive domain. The role is responsible for conducting in-depth market competitor and technology research analyzing industry trends and delivering data-driven insights that inform product conceptualization engineering decisions and long-term R&D initiatives.
The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills a solid technical understanding of automotive systems and the ability to translate complex research findings into actionable recommendations. This position requires collaboration with cross-functional teams including Engineering Design Sales Marketing Quality and Supply Chain to ensure alignment of research insights with business and product objectives.
Market & Industry Research
- Conduct comprehensive research on global and regional automotive markets focusing on emerging technologies, mobility trends and competitive landscapes.
- Analyze shifts in consumer preferences, sustainability trends, regulatory changes, safety standards and electrification developments.
- Track and evaluate competitor product offerings, performance benchmarks, pricing strategies and innovation pipelines.
Product Development & R&D Support
- Provide research-based insights to guide product concept creation, design direction and technical specifications.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to assess feasibility, performance requirements and potential technologies for integration.
- Support R&D roadmaps by identifying new materials, powertrain technologies, digital features and smart mobility solutions.
- Assist in evaluating prototypes, test results and customer feedback to refine product performance and user experience.
Data Analysis & Reporting
- Analyze large datasets from testing, customer studies and market intelligence to identify trends, correlations and opportunities.
- Build and maintain dashboards and research databases to support product planning decisions.
- Prepare high-quality reports, presentations and briefs for leadership, product managers and technical teams.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with Product Development, Engineering, Marketing, Supply Chain and Quality teams to align research with project goals.
- Participate in brainstorming, ideation and design reviews by providing evidence-based insights.
- Support decision-making through scenario modelling, benchmarking and cost-benefit analyses.
Operational Excellence
- Maintain comprehensive and organized documentation of all research studies, competitive analyses and technology evaluations.
- Stay current on new automotive technologies, global industry developments, new regulations and mobility innovations.
- Support the R&D Manager and Product Development leadership in day-to-day tasks, project tracking and strategic initiatives.
- Perform ad hoc research, analysis and special studies to address emerging business needs.
- Ensure full compliance with ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System requirements.
Qualifications
Bachelors Degree (required) in one of the following fields:
- Mechanical Engineering
- Automotive Engineering
- Electrical/Electronic Engineering (especially for EVs or ADAS)
- Materials Science / Chemical Engineering (if focus on materials R&D)
- Industrial Engineering
- 13 years of experience in research, market intelligence, product development or R&D within the automotive industry (preferred).
- Experience with automotive market analytics, technology scouting, trend research or competitive benchmarking.
- Exposure to product development cycles, engineering teams or testing environments is highly desirable.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze data, prepare reports and present findings to cross-functional stakeholders.
Functional / Technical Competencies
- Strong research and analytical skills with the ability to synthesize large volumes of technical and market data.
- Solid understanding of automotive systems (powertrain, EV technologies, ADAS, interiors, electronics, materials).
- Proficiency in data analysis tools (Excel, Power BI, Tableau) and research management platforms.
- Ability to create clear, compelling reports and visualizations for technical and non-technical teams.
- Knowledge of product development cycles, benchmarking processes and R&D methodologies.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- High attention to detail with a commitment to accuracy and validation of findings.
