Workshop Technician

Job Purpose: Workshop Technician will be responsible for carrying out maintenance and calibration tasks on aircraft components, tools, and equipment in accordance with company procedures and regulations. The job holder works as part of a team under the direction and guidance of the assigned supervisor/Engineer within the appropriate trade/cross trade disciplines for which they have been trained.

In this role you will:

1. Carry out routine component/tools servicing and calibration/maintenance/modification and/or approved repairs compliant to manufacturers' procedures whilst observing all safety procedures.
2. Complete any component/tools maintenance and other tasks as assigned by immediate Supervisor/Engineers. This will include the ability to obtain and understand Aircraft Maintenance Manual (AMM), Illustrated Parts Catalogue (IPC), Component Maintenance Manual (CMM), Standard Practice Manual (SPM), Quality Manual ISO/IEC 17025, or other approved documentation required to carry out the task.
3. Assist supervisor/Engineers in troubleshooting, defect rectifications, and carrying out modifications while performing instructions contained in the job card.
4. Ensure all work locations are kept clean and maintain excellent housekeeping. Participate and promote in creating a safety culture in an effort to minimize accidents and highlight any deficiencies/failures that can lead to such accidents. This includes being aware and communicating safety shortfalls. Maintain vigilance in ensuring work areas (including the ramp), vehicles, stands, lockers are free of FOD and that toolboxes are regularly audited, maintained, and kept clean.
5. Ensure prompt attendance to all allocated tasks with the intent to reduce TAT and avoid operational delays/disruptions. Should be able to communicate any aircraft/component/structural defects found to the supervisor/Engineer/Manager in an expedient manner and ensure during shift handovers all required information is clearly passed to the staff taking over.
6. Able to perform testing, verifications, servicing to monitor, assist and support all Overhaul/Repair/Refurbishment/Inspection & Calibration tasks required as per special procedures and manuals used in respective workshops.
7. Form part of RRU (Rapid Response Unit)/AOG team in the event of aircraft incidents and recoveries.

GSE Specific:

1. Be capable to build scaffolding structures and understand regulatory and safety codes associated with this task.

Landing Gear Workshop Specific:

1. Understand the function and operation of aircraft Landing Gear components.
2. Ability to perform repair as per SPM/CMM and be familiar with the landing gear overhaul process.
3. Experience in handling motorized equipment like Lifters and overhead cranes, to be used for Landing Gear components.
4. Familiar with the standard and special tooling and equipment required for the Landing Gear overhaul.

Qualifications & Experience: To be considered for this role you need to meet the below requirements:

1. 5+ Years Aviation field
2. Degree or Honours (12+3 or equivalent)
3. Degree in Engineering in Aeronautical subjects/Mechanical/Avionics/Electronic/Tech Engineering OR Aircraft Maintenance Engineering Licence OR Engineering Apprenticeship.
4. Working knowledge of special procedures used in Wheel & Brake shop like Plastic media Blasting, Shot peening, paint touch up.
5. Should be able to handle motorized equipment like Lifters and overhead cranes, to be used within the shop floor.
6. Fully conversant with Air Legislation and legal matters that relate to the operation and maintenance of aircraft to international standards.
7. Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, understand symbols, flags, and general notes identify part location.
8. Basic knowledge in CAD/CAM such as Autocad, Mastercam.
9. Basic knowledge in developing tooling for In-Situ Machining.
10. Basic knowledge to characterize material machinability, tool holding, tool cutter selection.
11. Hands-on experience in operating CNC Milling machines.
12. Knowledge in geometric dimensioning, tolerance, limits, fits & clearances.
13. Hands-on experience in operating Conventional machines such as Lathe milling & drilling machines.
14. To be familiar with machine shop safety procedures.
15. Hands-on experience in operating TIG welding machine & spot-welding machine.
16. Knowledge in TIG welding various metals such as steel, titanium alloys, Nickel alloys, and aluminium alloys.
17. Possess knowledge of industrial safety practices.
18. Basic knowledge in accessing weld quality.
19. Ability to determine the requirements to weld various metals based on its material characteristics.
20. Ability to prepare & monitor plating parameters and chemicals addition.
21. Knowledge in chemical preparation/mixing of different types of solution (etching/passivation/anodizing & chromating).
22. Ability of mixing/preparation for tank plating & effluent treatment plant solution.
23. Knowledge of tank cadmium plating on aircraft parts.
24. Specialized in electroplating process in sulphuric & chromic acid anodizing on aluminium parts.
25. Specialized in electroplating process in gold plating & nickel plating on metallic and plastic parts.
26. Ability to perform passivation of stainless-steel.
27. Must have a minimum of 4 calibration/servicing authorizations.
28. Must be able to perform calibrations & operate equipment within his/her authorization.
29. To sign test, verification & calibration reports as a role of performer within his/her authorization.
30. To be able to perform intermediate checks and preventive maintenance of equipment.
31. Maintain records of environmental monitoring, Perform Quality related activities as guided by Technical Manager (TM) or lab-In-charge.
