Roles and responsibilities

Performs welding demanding work on-site in a specialized area of Field Service for Gas and Steam Turbines. Effectively repair works for damaged parts of turbines in accordance with global technics and standards.
What do I need to qualify for this job?

  • Degree in welding engineering or qualification as a Welding Supervisor in related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in welding technologies in practical application, and scientific background as a licensed Welder/ Welding Supervisor/ Engineer in accordance with international standards.
  • Comprehensive knowledge (theoretical/ practical) in welding process 111/141/135.
  • Canal TIG Welding experience.
  • Candidate from Power Plant, Oil & Gas, Automation, Transportation industry would have added advantage.
  • Knowledge of typical standards and regulations (e.g., AD 2000/ DIN EN 13480/ DIN EN ISO 3834/ etc.) and application.
  • Ability to identify correct selection of welding equipment, consumables, and gas mixtures acc. instructions.
  • General profound understanding of technical equipment and ability to work with/based on technical documentation.
  • Digital literacy, confident user of relevant IT-applications (Microsoft Office), additional IT-competence will be beneficial.
  • Pro-active, problem solving and ready to work attitude, readiness to take additional tasks to improve the status Quo if needed.
  • Understanding of relevant industry standards for Quality and HSE.
  • Fluent in English Language (Written & Oral), other languages are beneficial.
  • Strong analytical skills with an affinity to technology and innovation in the service industry combined with a proactive and convincing attitude.
  • Team player with high level of resilience, the ability to work independently under pressure, multitask and focus on problem solving in a complex environment collaborating with international teams.
  • Willing to travel internationally on short notice and work flexible hours.
  • Knowledge of welding techniques, procedures, and equipment.
  • Proficiency in interpreting engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Ability to use measuring instruments and precision tools.
  • Excellent problem solving and organizational skills.
  • Performing the required welding tasks at site.

Desired candidate profile
  • Knowledge of different metals and alloys (e.g., steel, stainless steel, aluminum, copper, nickel alloys).
  • Understanding of material properties (e.g., strength, ductility, and hardness) and how they interact with welding processes.
  • Ability to choose the right material for specific welding applications.
  • Familiarity with industry codes such as AWS (American Welding Society) standards, ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers), and ISO standards.
  • Understanding safety standards and regulatory requirements specific to welding, such as OSHA guidelines and NFPA standards.
  • Adherence to quality control standards, including weld inspections and certifications.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and schematics for welding projects.
  • Understanding welding symbols and how to follow them for precise weld placement and joint design.
  • Knowledge of tolerances and dimensional requirements for welded parts.
  • Proficiency in non-destructive testing (NDT) methods, such as ultrasonic testing, x-ray inspection, and magnetic particle inspection for weld quality.
  • Ability to evaluate welds for strength, appearance, and integrity.
  • Experience with visual inspection techniques for welds and materials.
  • Conducting and interpreting destructive testing (e.g., tensile tests, bend tests) to verify weld performance.
  • Proficiency with welding machines and equipment, including arc welders, MIG/TIG welders, plasma cutters, and welding robots.
  • Experience with welding consumables like electrodes, fillers, fluxes, and shielding gases.
  • Knowledge of protective gear (e.g., welding helmets, gloves, jackets) and ensuring proper use for safety.
  • In-depth understanding of welding safety protocols, including the prevention of fires, explosions, and exposure to hazardous fumes.
  • Personal protective equipment (PPE) knowledge and use (e.g., welding gloves, goggles, face shields, protective clothing).
  • Familiarity with ventilation systems and fume extraction for safe working environments.
  • Understanding the potential risks of heat distortion, electric shock, and UV radiation in the welding process.
