Lead, direct, control, and administrate skilled workers engaged in welding activities onboard and in the workshop.
Technical Competencies:
Preplanning of jobs and providing feedback to Foreman Sr. / Supervisor on sequence of job, manpower, and equipment requirements.
Co-ordination with Project Manager, Inspectors, Other trades, and within Dept. for smooth execution of job.
Ensure that the consumable handling procedures are strictly followed.
Ensure that the welding equipment being used is validated and tested.
Ensure that the WPS for particular work scopes are displayed and the welders are aware of the requirements and comply with the same.
Ensure that all welders are following WT requirements.
Ensure that all responsibilities of welding supervision as mentioned in DDWD ISO 3834-2 manual annex 1 are followed.
Ensure effective and productive use of allocated manpower, consumables, and materials thereby achieving allocated time scale to meet the set target.
Ensuring all work is performed according to the required standards and within the allocated time frame.
Liaise with other discipline foremen / supervision to ensure the optimum utilization of available resources, with the overall objective of successful completion of the project.
Distribute the welders according to their experience and monitor the performances through regular in-process inspections.
Perform internal inspections to ensure that the work is performed as per the set standards prior to offering for QC / Client inspections.
Report work progress, planned start / end dates against Work Order and turnover for next shift as required by the Supervisor.
Train, motivate, appraise, and provide feedback on training requirements to uplift the skill of subordinates.
Exercise discipline at the work site to prevent absenteeism, unsafe work practices, and idleness.
Proactive participation in identifying errors onboard / workshop and effective reporting through NCIR system.
Thorough knowledge in various types of steel works, steel structures, and welding procedure specifications.
Knowledge and experience in ship repair and new building yard.
Experience:
Familiarized with welding work having at least 3 years of experience as Foreman or in a Lead position.
Education:
Industrial training Certificate or equivalent.
2 years trade apprentice course.

Welding Process Management:
Oversee welding operations, including tasks such as MIG, TIG, Stick welding, and flux-cored arc welding (FCAW), depending on the project needs.
Ensure that the appropriate welding procedures, materials, and techniques are used for each task.
Inspect welding equipment to ensure it is in good working condition and address any issues or maintenance needs.
Set up and prepare materials, including proper alignment, securing, and positioning of metals or components for welding.
Quality Control and Inspection:
Ensure that all welds meet the required quality standards and specifications, including visual inspections and non-destructive testing (e.g., X-ray, ultrasonic).
Review welds for strength, durability, and precision, and identify any flaws or defects that may require rework.
Monitor welding procedures and techniques to ensure they comply with project specifications, codes, and standards.
Maintain records of inspections, quality control reports, and any discrepancies found during the welding process.
Safety and Compliance:
Enforce strict adherence to safety regulations, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), ventilation systems, and fire prevention measures.
Conduct regular safety briefings and training sessions to ensure welders are aware of the latest safety practices and hazard controls.
Monitor the work environment for safety hazards and ensure that all activities comply with local and national safety regulations, such as OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration).
Address and resolve safety concerns or accidents quickly and ensure proper reporting and follow-up.
Project Coordination and Planning:
Work closely with project managers, engineers, and contractors to ensure that welding tasks are coordinated with other construction or fabrication activities.
Assist in developing project timelines and schedules, ensuring that welding work is completed on time and within budget.
Communicate with stakeholders to provide updates on progress, delays, or any issues that may arise during the welding process.
