Review contract requirements related to welding. Provide comments/feedback to commercial and production departments on welding topics on project specifications/procedures/tender.
Ensure yard compliance with national and international standards, class rules, and legislations.
Liaise with third-party inspection authorities whenever required for the project and issue any necessary work orders for inspections and/or testing.
Plan, organize, coordinate, and control activities of WPQR qualification and preparation of relevant welding procedure specifications. Update and maintain the files of approved WPS’s.
Authorize stopping processes if they do not meet specified requirements.
Raise non-conformity reports, perform root cause analysis, and approve re-work processes.
Collate, update, and file all relevant welding engineering documents by project.
Issue, maintain, and revalidate welders’ qualification test records (WQTR).
Provide expertise in the development of specific procedures, techniques, checklists, sequences, or any other welding-related requirements.
Carry out material grade identification and material confirmation tests.
Liaise with Quality Engineers/Supervisors/Inspectors, Project Managers, Production Supervisors, Client Representatives, and Classification Surveyors whenever required for the project.
Prepare procedures and work instructions related to heat treatment activities.
Oversee the process of welding and welding-related equipment validation and calibration.
Select, approve, and estimate the quantity of welding consumables and prepare relevant work instructions, including batch testing of consumables (if required).
Implement the day-to-day operations assigned for the department/section to ensure compliance with the established standards and procedures.
Essential/Desirable Qualifications
Degree in Welding or Metallurgical/Mechanical Engineering
Master’s degree in Metallurgy/Welding
Knowledge of International Codes and Class rules on welding & testing
Knowledge of materials and various non-destructive testing/mechanical methods
International Welding Engineer certification as per IIW certification program
5 to 7 years of experience in a similar role
Experience in ship repair/new building, oil & gas industries
