Job description

The VP Health and Safety will lead the global strategy of ESH across the company, ensuring compliance, risk mitigation, and embedding safety in the company culture. This role drives implementation of sustainability initiatives, enhances operational resilience and aligns EHS programs with business objectives while collaborating with leadership and regulatory bodies to ensure continuous improvement and compliance worldwide.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Strategic Leadership:
    • Develop and execute EHS strategies to minimize and manage residual risks to the business, associates, assets and reputation.
    • Ensure alignment of EHS strategies with Arcera’s business objectives, supporting growth, profitability, and market competitiveness.
    • Foster cross-functional collaboration and stakeholder engagement to execute the EHS strategy, ensuring alignment on product and process requirements.
  2. Operational Excellence:
    • Build EHS capability and awareness across the company and bring best practices and EHS industrial trends into the company. Promoting a culture of safety and sustainability within the organization.
    • Implement EHS Systems: Developing, implementing, and maintaining global occupational health and safety systems across all company sites. This includes process safety, occupational hygiene, and environmental protection.
  3. Crisis and Risk Leadership:
    • Managing and responding to EHS-related incidents and emergencies. Ensuring that appropriate measures are in place to prevent and mitigate risks.
    • Navigate disruptions effectively by making data-driven decisions and leading crisis response efforts across the organization.
  4. Talent & Team Development:
    • Lead and develop a high-performing EHS team, fostering collaboration across functions and regions.
    • Develop talents, ensure succession planning, and foster a growth mindset.
  5. Sustainability and Innovation:
    • Drive sustainability initiatives and implement innovative solutions to create a more resilient and environmentally responsible organization.
  6. Governance and Compliance:
    • Establish Arcera EHS governance and develop and maintain EHS policy, standards and performance criteria.
    • Conduct Audits: Coordinating and supervising regular EHS audits to ensure compliance with legal requirements and company policies. Identifying areas for improvement and implementing corrective actions.
    • Stakeholder Engagement: Maintaining contact with government agencies, industry bodies, and other organizations. Participating in projects and working groups related to EHS.
    • Manage EHS related budgets FTE, OPEX.
    • Role model Arcera Values and adhere to the internal policies and standard operating procedures designed to ensure patient safety, including mandatory attendance at trainings.

  7. End-to-End Global Network Transformation & Optimization: Proven expertise in designing and leading the transformation of fully integrated global networks, encompassing manufacturing, quality, supply chain, digital, and B2B operations. Adept at driving network optimization through data-driven decision-making, advanced digital technologies, and strategic partnerships. Skilled in fostering a transformation mindset, enhancing agility, and aligning regional and global operations to improve efficiency, resilience, and business performance.
  8. Effective communication at all levels of the organization.

Qualifications & Experience:

  1. Degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering (environmental, chemical or industrial), or a related field. Master’s degree preferable.
  2. > 10 – 15 years practical experience in the pharmaceutical industry in leading EHS.
  3. Proven track record of successfully working in multinational corporations, with experience in organic and inorganic growth strategies.
  4. Extensive experience in driving organizational transformations and operational excellence in alignment with the TechOps strategy.
  5. High level experience in project and program requirements management.
