Job Description

Managerial Role:

  1. Provide advice, coaching and supervision to the Faculty Heads and other staff as required.
  2. Participate and contribute to the professional growth and development of staff, including identification of the professional development requirements of the Heads of Faculty and making arrangements for training to enable them to better perform in their roles.
  3. Act as a role model for staff showing them how to improve their professional performance through self-development and strengthening areas of weakness.
  4. Evaluate the professional performance of line reports in accordance with GEMS approved policies and performance management cycle and provide ongoing formal and informal advice and feedback to line reports.
  5. Assist the Principal by working collaboratively with Heads of Faculty to identify clear priorities, objectives and targets to be achieved during the academic year and ensure that these align with the School Improvement Plan.
  6. Assume responsibility for designated matters by the Principal and act as substitute for the Principal where required.

Organizational Role:

  1. Participate in the school leadership team to develop, plan and implement strategies and priorities for school development and improvement.
  2. Participate in the development of the School Improvement Plan and the achievement of the associated KPIs.
  3. Participate in the development of school policies and procedures concerning all matters relevant to teaching and learning, students and parents.
  4. Promote and model collaborative, cooperative and productive working relationships throughout the school.
  5. Support the Principal and staff in building positive relationships with parents and the community.
  6. Establish networks and productive working relationships with leadership in other schools.
  7. Abide by all United Arab Emirates mandates in reporting sexual or physical abuse and neglect.
  8. Ensure effective communication of education initiatives to parents and the wider community.
  9. Demonstrate high ethical and professional behavior and standards when working with students, parents, and school staff.
  10. Assist the Principal in the management of complaints made by students, parents, staff and the community.
  11. Provide regular reports to Principal regarding the performance of academic functions.
  12. Use problem solving skills to resolve academic issues for the Principal but ensure that the Principal is fully informed about the issues and where necessary; seek the advice and assistance of the Principal to resolve such matters.

Functional Role:

  1. Ensure that Heads of Faculty and teachers have a strong focus on improving the levels of student achievement within the school when planning and implementing their teaching and learning programs.
  2. Ensure that the teaching staff implement high quality teaching and learning standards and that these are based on best teaching and learning practice and consistent with the pedagogical and curriculum reforms.
  3. Facilitate communication between all Faculty Heads, especially matters related to student progress, integration of curriculum, joint or paired teaching of English and Arabic medium subjects, language development of students and extra-curricular activities.
  4. Facilitate, in collaboration with Heads of Faculty, in-school moderation meetings concerning the assessment of student work to ensure that the grades and marks allocated to students to record progress are accurate, fair and valid.
  5. Facilitate, in collaboration with Heads of Faculty, the analysis of student achievement data to identify the adjustments that need to be made to teaching and learning programs to ensure that all students achieve the outcomes expected and areas where teaching staff require professional development, assistance and support so that students can achieve to the best of their potential.
  6. Collaborate with the Vice Principal Student Services for implementation of curriculum adjustments, learning and other resource support for students with Special Educational Needs and ensure that these students receive appropriate assistance and support with their learning.
  7. Collaborate with the Vice Principal Student Services to ensure the provision of guidance to students regarding academic, personal and behavioral matters and ensure that students have access to appropriate support.
  8. Initiate, in collaboration with the Vice Principal Student Services and the Heads of Faculty, arrangements and mechanisms to identify students in need of learning or other assistance and take appropriate actions to address them.
  9. Ensure that Faculty Heads enable and support their teachers delivering against the curriculum by using appropriate instruction methodology.

Academic:

  1. Targets for improvement of student achievement by grade and subject are set out in the School Improvement Plan.
  2. Targets for improvement of student achievement in the School Improvement Plans are achieved.
  3. Evidence that teaching and learning programs have been adjusted as a result of analysis of student achievement data.
  4. Evidence that the Heads of Faculty have collaborated and initiated opportunities for joint planning, curriculum integration, shared and paired teaching.

Skills:

  • Strong School Administration
  • Previous experience, working in Senior Leadership positions, British Curriculum
  • Curriculum development
