Are you eager to kickstart your career in structural engineering and contribute to shaping the built environment? Join our Structures team as an Undergraduate Structural Engineering Intern where you'll gain hands-on experience working on innovative projects that enhance building resilience and sustainability.

About the Role

As part of our Structures team, you will assist in delivering cutting-edge engineering solutions for major building projects across the Middle East. You will work under the guidance of senior engineers to develop structural designs, perform analysis, and contribute to BIM modeling. This role provides exposure to a variety of design methodologies, computational tools, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Key Responsibilities

  • Engineering Design Support: Learn about structural analysis, perform calculations, and develop design solutions for various building projects.
  • BIM Model & Drawing Production: Support the development of structural drawings and digital models using software such as AutoCAD, Revit, or similar tools.
  • Structural Analysis & Technical Studies: Work with engineering software such as ETABS, SAP2000, STAAD.Pro, or ANSYS to conduct analysis.
  • Material & Load Calculations: Assist in performing calculations related to materials and structural loads under supervision.
  • Site Visits & Inspections: Participate in site visits and inspections to observe construction processes and understand real-world applications.
  • Design Coordination: Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate structural solutions into broader project designs, ensuring compliance with relevant codes and standards (ACI, AISC, Eurocode, ASCE, or equivalent).
  • Research & Innovation: Conduct research on innovative materials and construction techniques to support sustainable and efficient design solutions.
  • Programming & Automation: Utilize scripting in programming languages such as Python, C#, Dynamo, or Rhino Grasshopper to enhance design workflows.

Qualifications :

  • Education: Pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering with a concentration in Structural Engineering or a closely related field.
  • Expected Graduation: 2026 (final-year students).
  • GPA: Applicants should have a minimum GPA of 2.8 (or equivalent) to be considered.
  • Start Date: March 2025
  • Duration: 12 months from start date.
  • Eligibility: As part of AECOM's commitment to Emiratisation and in compliance with UAE labor law, only UAE Nationals with a family book will be considered for this role.

Ideal Candidate Qualifications:

Core Coursework:

  • Structural Analysis (Basic and Advanced)
  • Reinforced Concrete Design
  • Steel Structure Design
  • Construction Materials and Methods
  • Finite Element Analysis (FEA) (preferred)

Software Skills:

  • Experience or coursework involving structural design software such as ETABS, SAP2000, STAAD.Pro, or ANSYS.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD or Revit for drafting and modeling.

Mathematical and Analytical Skills:

  • Strong understanding of engineering mechanics, dynamics, and numerical methods.
